Is this a safe hotel for a woman and child alone? Is the 3 block walk to the metro safe?

Try posting this question on the Falls Church forum.

Anyway, it's only three blocks ..

I wouldn't waste time posting on the falls church site since there is so little traffic. I think you posted it in the right place.

In any case it is a safe hotel and a safe area. There really isn't a whole lot right around the hotel, but you can walk pretty easy to the metro, but it might be more like 4 or 5 blocks.

Thanks!

I saw one hotel that was 2 blocks away from the Metro. Then I read that the 2 blocks were through public housing areas with high crime rates and they had to take the shuttle 2 blocks for safety reason. Good thing I waited to book!

One more question...

How long of a ride from there to the Washington Monument?

I was looking at the metro info site but I'm already a bit confused.

From West Falls Church Metro?

You put West Falls Church Metro and Washington Monument in the trip planner (traveling from and to sections) at www.wmata.com. Chose rail only and then hit submit.

The train ride is about 25 minutes to the Smithsonian stop and then the walk is 0.40

No more than 30 minutes, including walking from the Smithsonian Metro stop to the Washington Monument.

The hotel is at East Falls Church metro, but in any case, it's only one stop difference, so estimating about 25-30 minutes is about right. The area is definitely safe for a woman and child. It's a quiet, mainly residential area. There's a new chain restaurant about a block away called Bear Rock Cafe. I haven't been there yet, but it could be a good option at the end of a day of sightseeing with a kid. Have fun!

If it's the one on Lee Hwy., it sits right off a major highway (Rt. 66). Unless there's a back way, you'd have to cross the overpass to get to the Metro. Just looked at the website, and it's somewhat misleading. The things they list as "nearby" aren't really that close.

That immediate area is not the most pleasing IMO, but there's a great little restaurant, "La Cote d'Or," right next door to the motel. It's especially nice to sit in the sunroom section.

You don't have to cross the overpass to get to the metro. You can walk down the bike trail/path.
