No, There are no car rentals. Your only other option would be a taxi. There are plenty of cars or vans waiting outside. I believe the price would be around 60to80 dollars U.S.

The drivers will negotiate with you.

Hope this helps, Cheers!

I am a bit confused since I got in touch with the hotel and they told me that there will not be any taxis available at the airport.

Btw,

Thanks.

We have been to El Catey twice. There were always taxis out front. I don't think there will be a problem.

We stayed at the Gran Bahia El Portillo this past January. We had booked with Cheap Caribbean, they arranged transfers for us with a company called Turniter Tours. I don't have their direct number but you can get it from the DR Tourist office. They were waiting for us outside the airport with a Turniter sign. An other option is a private taxi driver His name is Nino Vega Telephone number 809-710-4914. He charged us $100 US for an 8 hour day trip around the Samana peninsula. He had a new air conditioned mini van and was very very nice. He hotel knows him well. Good luck, we loved the hotel and the area.

Inct; I just looked up the direct phone number for Turniter tours, they are who we used from Cheap Caribbean Vacations ,from el Catey to el Portillo Hotel. The phone number is for the office in Puerto Plata 1- 809 -586-3911. That is the closest office to el Catey. Our taxi driver did not speak any English, but was able tounderstand enough to get us to the Hotel. We had prepaid and just showed him the paperwork and he said ok. We did tip him. I hope this helps.

We also use Nino Vega to get us to Las Terrenas for day trips to the supermarket for coffee, spices and imported beer, Corona.

Nino's english is poor, but he does get some basic english. He will use his calculator to punch in a pick up time for when you will like to be picked up. I don't have a # for him, but he is well known at the front desk. Very nice man. Two years ago we took a picture with him. This year when we called for him we gave him the photo. It gave him such a big smile. He called us his family. His van is new as of this year, and is kept very clean.

Good luck!
