Can't suggest a hire co but the Z3 is a preferable drive to the MX5...own one driven the other.. DO NOT hire the Astra..just a big let down and not worth the $$ for hire..get a BMW with a sunroof... If you have luggage the 5 have a bit more forgivable space than its Beemer counterpart...but for either pack soft luggage

this is not a direct response but I wonder if you have solved this problem... Usually when we travel the insurance included with our credit card covers any liability we have for personal injury caused by an auto rented with the card. However I am told that the insurance is invalid in a few countries, including Australia. The car rental companies want to charge $25 per day for insurance against injury to third parties (this is separate from damage to the vehicle or property damage). Do you know of a better option? Does everyone take this ridiculously expensive insurance? Thank you.

Guruswife.. thanks for your reply. Am actually still looking ard on which one to rent as I'm really interested in the Beemer... just thinking whether Z3 or Z4 model. Where would be a nice place to drive this beemer? Towards north or south of sydney?

To do it "topless" one my my faves is going south on Grand Pacific drive tripadvisor.com/Travel-g255055-c2012/Austral… The road ducks in and out of the coast and you go through lovely rainforest in Royal National Park. (Assuming you are doing a daytrip)
