Hello,

I am going to Lake Garda the first 2 weeks in May. I'm staying in three different places - Limone, Riva del Garda and Sirmione. We have hired a car to drive around for the whole time.

I was wondering if anyone has any top tips of places to go, or places to visit along the way, restaurants, bars etc basically any tips will be great!!

Also, I have been told that in Italy to swim in either the lake or pools you have to wear a swimming hat...is this true? And if so, do I need to buy one here to take out with me?

Thanks very much!!

Here is my 'go list' for Limone, which gives my recommendations of places to go in-town and things to do there:

tripadvisor.co.uk/GoListDetail-i2632-Lazy_Li…

Don't know about the swimming hat's thing, but they didn't ask for that in our Hotel. However, it might not hurt to take some - they don't take up much luggage space, let's face-it!! (Especially if you buy the Speedo/racing type)

Be VERY careful driving on the Gardesana, it's a tricky road indeed.

Hi,

did some cut&paste from previous postings....

bye

ZAP

- go to malcesine (north east) and there uphill to top of monte baldo. after that have a look at the picturesque old town. this will be a day trip

- if weather is good take the long trip to passo di tremalzo (north west part of lake bypassing riva) high above lake garda. tricky to find but its a must.

- visit salo and find the spectacular cafe (with some small outside desks) at junction via san carlo and via teatro vecchio.

- up north from salo you can find the "terrace of fear" in tremosine high above the lake

Riva Restaurants

Ristorante Leon D'Oro a Riva del Garda

Via Fiume, 28

Tel. +39 0464 552341

Run by a family where "Mama" has the command..

Reasonable price level. Very good fish and antipasti. Daily specials (ask!). Near to the harbour. Reservation needed.

And this one is always a "must" (for us...):

(Relative) High price level but fantastic food and romantic ambiente! Reservation required:

Ristorante "Al Volt"

Via Fiume73 • Riva del Garda (TN) • Tel. 0464 552570

Sirmione Restaurant

we found really amazing food in an old Villa direct at the lake side (with fill glass window...so maybe its the same as above described?)...

Hotel-Ristorante Grifone (???)

If you go to http://www.uk.map24.com/ and enter...

Vicolo Bisse

25019 Sirmione

Italy

...you will get a map.

It is somehow "relative" expensive but you get really fantastic food...

Also, thanks for the road warning - a little concerned about the driving....but if I take it steady then I will be fine I'm sure!

Hi there.

The Swimming hat think phased me a bit before me and my fiance went to Limone last August. It was a lovely holiday, very romantic, infact fiance proposed to me there. I would reccomend The Jacky Bar for a meal. It was lovely. The best Pizza I have ever had. Enjoy!

.... on the swimming hat issue. We stayed in Limone at the Hotel San Pietro and swimming hats weren't required. We also swan in the lake several times and there weren't any signs saying to wear them there either.
