I just returned from a week stay in Tuscany. We rented an apartment in a renovated villa from the company Best of Tuscany (www.bestoftuscany.it) The villa was amazing. The renovation was done very well and the standard is first class. We staying in Villa Manciano in Apartment Il Fienile. The views over the countryside were wonderful and we had the shared use of the pool although we mostly had it to ourselves. The villa is outside of Castiglion Fiorentino and about 15 minutes from Cortona. The villa owner gave us a wonderful cooking class one night. We had a great time and I recommend anyone looking for accomadation in Tuscany check out this website.

Hi emmaline, I am thinking of going to Cortona next May, What did you do for transport it is necessary to have a car, and if so, did you find it difficult driving there. Also any tips about the area you would recommend. Tks Paley.

We rented a car while in Tuscany and I would say this is a must. It wasn't difficult driving. The roads and towns are well marked and the roads are in good condition. There wasn't much traffic either.

I would advise not trying to do too much in one day. I initially planned to see two or three hill towns in a day and with the heat soon found out that this was too much. It was better to relax and enjoy one town completely and to see everything that it had to offer. So we tried to stay within 40 kilometers of our rental villa so that we weren't doing too much driving. Cortona is a fantastic town as is Lucignano and Monte San Savino. I also enjoyed Montepulciano.
