We are two adults travelling to Girona in August, with Ryanair. When we booked, we were offered a very good car hire rate through the Ryanair web site. We didn't avail of it at the time of booking.

The price has increased considerably since we booked. Does anyone know if it is cheaper to rent locally, rather than pre-booking through Ryanair?

We don't mind renting from the city centre, rather than the airport, as we arrive late at night, plan to spend the first night in Girona, and would prefer to collect the hire car the following day.

I would suggest to try www.auto-europe.co.uk , they usually offer quite decent prices. You can also find what it is available in the city centre and compare prices there and at the airport.

If you are going to stay just overnight, you may consider a Novotel which is five minutes from the airport, so driving at night would not be an issue. Or you may take a shuttle bus to the hotel and return to the airport (or go to the city centre) to hire a car next day. It depends on your further plans, whether it is a weekday or weekend etc. For example, it is often cheaper to hire in the city centre, but the office may be closed on Sunday.

Hope it helps.

The Vilobi is even nearer to the airport than the Novotel and is a reasonable hotel for one night.

Check car hire through an agent, we have used
