I will be arriving in Frankfurt around 4 pm on a Sunday in October (the 12th to be exact) and am leaving the next day before noon - both via air. I am planning on staying at the Sharaton in the airport just for convenience. Are there any sights that I will be able to see that evening (not sure given the time and the fact that it's a Sunday). What's the best place to eat? I will be with my partner so are there any gay friendly places to have a drink on a Sunday night? Thanks much in advance.

????

You'll be able to get a drink anywhere as long as you pay for it.

hello jenglar,

frankfurt is a gay-friendly city, you will have no troubles finding a nice gay that you will enjoy. if you stay at the airport, i would recommend to take the s-bahn (s8 and s 9) to frankfurt-city, get off at "konstablerwache" (which is a 30 minute-ride), then go to either "luckys manhattan" or "pulse", both located close to the konstablerwache, and i am sure you will have a good time!

Thanks blondetom - very helpful

Russ - not so much. Why post if you have no advice to give?

My advice, in other words, was that I think any Frankfurt drinking establishment will be friendly to you whatever your orientation and that you ought not limit yourselves, based on said orientation, to a handful of bars/clubs that openly market to gays only. Maybe you'll be walking through Sachsenhausen and you'll see some place that looks inviting and you'll enjoy yourselves there - no matter who you're seated next to.

I'd further advise you not to stay at the airport. There's nothing convenient about drinking on Sun night, taking the S-Bahn back to the airport, then wondering what to do with yourselves at the airport on Sunday until 2 pm. Not if you want to maximize your short time in the area, anyway. Stay in Frankfurt or in Mainz where you are surrounded by some culture rather than trapped in some American-style hotel. You can do that in DC.

Thanks. Will there be any sights or shops that will be open on a Sunday evening?

hi jenglar,

the only places where some stores are still opened at the time you reach frankfurt will be either at the airport an the main train station - and both places are quite pricey.

there might some tourist stores still opened at the römerberg at that time too, where you could get some frankfurt-t-shirts etc, but at least the römerberg and its surroundings, being the most popular sights in frankfurt, is never closed ;-)
