Anyone done Eagles Nest/Obersalzburg Dokumentation/bunkers o |
|
Everyone seems to highly recommend Eagles-Nest-tours.com for this adventure. Normally I would go ahead and book with them, but their tours are only in the afternoon (1:30-5:30pm). We were hoping to do Eagles Nest, etc. in the morning and a ride on the lake in the afternoon. We will be on a daytrip from Salzburg in late June.
So, for those who have done it on their own did you use the audioguide? Was it good? I have read that most of the signage is in German. Can you go into the bunkers right from the Dokumentation center? Any other tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm going to piggy-back a couple of questions onto this question! Specifically about the Obersalzburg Dokumentation Center and Bunkers: What did people think of the Audio Guides? Were there separate audio guides for kids and adults? How long (about) did it take to do the audioguide tour? I see on their website that the Obers.Dok.Ctr & Bunkers has guided tours available, but no specific details on them: Are they available in English? Extra cost? Do you need to set them up in advance or just show up? THANK YOU!

Hi there. I visited the Obersalzberg a couple of years ago and stayed at the Hotel zum Turken, just down the road from the Dok Centre, and right above the old Berghof site. Incidentally the Hotel was the base for the Berghof security, and has an impressive network of tunnels underneath, and accessible. I did the ENT in the afternoon, their one advantage being able to point out historical points around the Obersalzberg area, however you can do your own thing. I would recommend that you consider turning up to the Dok Centre early, having a look around inside - which includes access to and through the bunkers/tunnels - and then catch the special bus up -from nearby - to the Kehlstein (Eagles Nest). You should still have ample time for a trip on the lake, or up the Jenner cable car, in the afternoon. The Dok Centre display is quite self-explanatory, and the audio would undoubtedly help. The quality and design of the materials used in the Kehlstein construction is/was first class. Look especially inside the fireplace at the embossed soldier on the horse, and the fantastic lamp holders throughout. Enough from me ......enjoy your day there.
