3 evenings in Killarney |
|
Sorry for not picking this up sooner but here goes For pubs I would suggest: For cocktails I would recommend The Cube behind the Killarney Towers. For an entertaining evening with live entertainment McSorley's. For a mix of trad and late night club there is The Grand. For a sports game on the TV with the locals The Failte. For a younger and in my opining rougher/livelier crowd there's Mustang Sally's. To hang out with all the other tourists there is the back of The Laurel's. The public bar at The Arbutus Hotel should have a lively session. For a quiet drink there is the 98 on High Street. There are many many more but that should give you some idea of what is available in the town itself. But I should mention The Lake Hotel for if the evening is somewhat warm you can take your drinks outside and watch the last rays of the day glisten on the lake as the sun sets behind the mountains. For restaurants (again there are many but) here are a few: Foley's. Bricin, Lord Kenmare's (make reservations), Chapter 40, McSweeney Arms (don't think this is bar food) . . . For attractions: Muckross Abbey, Muckross Gardens, Killarney National Park, O' Sullivans Cascade, Kerry Woollen Mills, Franciscan Friary, Meeting of the Waters, St. Mary's Cathedral, Muckross House, Ladies View, Blue Pool Nature Trail, Torc Waterfall, Torc Mountain (you can easily walk to the top), Ross Castle, Aghadoe, Dunloe Ogham Stones, Gap of Dunloe, Killarney House, Knockreer House, Muckross Traditional Farms, Coolwood Wildlife Sanctuary, White Villa Farm Museum, Kerry Poets Monument, The Blue Pool, Killarney Lake Tour, Inisfallen Island, Dunloe Castle, Castle Lough, Aghadoe, Moll's Gap, . . . For shows: The Irish National Entertainment Center is located in Killarney and always offers a wide range of shows. Upcoming examples range from American Wrestling Rampage to The Shaolin Monks. More info http://www.inec.ie/ In May there will be The Killarney International (car) Rally of the Lakes, free concerts at St. Mary's Church of Ireland, The Irish Adventure Challenge Race, Horseracing Meets, And "Oh What a Night" again at the INEC. For a fun trad session visit 'Courtneys Bar'on College Street, music starts there around 9pm,your son and daughter would enjoy this pub,and it is only a short walk from the Killarney Ave where you will be staying. The Liam O'Connor show is held in the Killarney Ave check with the hotels website to see when he starts the show there,it is an excellent night. The Silver Fox Resturant over O'Riain's Bar on High Street is a good spot for food, the resturant has a lovely menu and you could also eat downstairs which has a bar menu. Scotts Hotel on College Street is another good place for food and they also have music in the evenings. Enjoy your stay in Killarney.

Hi, Check out the concert hall at the Glen Eagles Hotel, maybe you’ll get lucky and catch a great production of Riverdance.

We saw the Liam O'Connor show. He's pretty entertaining. The older women seemed enthralled...he did wear those leather pants very well. Ate one night at the 4 Star Pizza and saw Indiana Jones at the theatre next door. I still don't understand the corn on the pizza. Ate at Mac's and Laurel's. Both very good. Shopping was not so great. Shops close early. Breakfast at the Killarney Avenue is very good.

Hi tessar508 Glad you enjoyed the Liam O'Connor Show it is a great evening out, must go and have a peep at this leather pants though.! Why there was corn on your pizza is a mystery as you normally request the ingrediants yourself when you order.Shops normally do not open late in the town until the start of June and then stay open late until end of August.Pity you guys were a little early season for shopping as now it is buzzing every evening and they do not close until 9pm. Glad you enjoyed your stay.

We had a wonderful time in Killarney. It's beautiful country. Shopping is not our thing, so the early hours didn't upset us. Everything was nearby and within walking distance, which was great. As for the pizza, we just ordered a deluxe pizza and got the corn, which was unexpected. If we had bothered to read the menu, I'm sure we would have known to ask for "no corn" but we were hungry and a tad rushed.

Are there pubs with music that would be more receptive to having our 2 teenage children with us? They so want to experience the music while the wife and I enjoy a few pints.....
|
Maybe try the Arbutus as it is a hotel and bar and may be more receptive to having kids. The rule I believe is to have kids out by 9pm and so if they look well under 18 they really should be out by that time. But since it is a hotel also you may be more likely to get away with staying a little later.
|
Hello pandpCalifornia Also try the Dunloe Lodge on College Street they have great sessions there and they do not seem to mind teenagers,The Grand Hotel is another spot music starts at 9.30pm and finishes at 11pm.Some places are very strict and others not so strict.
