Hotels close to Ste Catherine street and Crescent street |
The corner of St.Catherine and Crescent is not exactly close to the action.
umm okay whatever, could you suggest a hotel near there anyways?
The Just For Laughs festival takes place in the Latin Quarter, so on the other side of downtown from Crescent street, but it's easy to get there by métro. Since you want to stay close to Crescent: how about Hôtel de la Montagne or the Novotel or the Best Western Hotel Europa? I say read up about them here on Trip Advisor using the search feature... Keep in mind that many hotels have great rooms and problem rooms, which can explain the huge differences in ratings. (That, and the fact that some people are incredibly picky, and others overly generous with their praise.)

Thank you for the information. I am wondering if there is a map that shows the hotels in the area of where the festival is? Would you know of any?
I saw on a map where the Club Soda center is, in relation to crescent street. Its quite far. Would the whole festival take place near Club Soda? Is it best to have the hotel near there?

Club Soda is a venue, so there are shows there, but in fact, the main site is further east, centred around de Maisonneuve and St-Denis streets. There are a great number of hotels in this area, some of them are budget (especially along St-Hubert between de Maisonneuve and Ontario, next to the bus station), but others are really nice. The largest hotels are the Hôtel des Gouverneurs and the Hilton Doubletree. Le Relais lyonnais and Katuma get great reviews. There are a few to avoid -- for example, the Lord Berri specializes in busloads of obnoxious teenagers, it seems... There are also a great number of B&Bs in the neighbourhood - along St-Christophe or centred around Carré St-Louis above Sherbrooke. I say do some hunting here on TA and you'll find something that you like. I live in the neighbourhood, and it's a lot of fun. There are restaurants and bars and boutiques and sidewalk cafés galore... but it's a very urban neighbourhood and on the poor side of town, so there are a lot of punks and drunks and homeless around, too. At night, it's definitely a party place, and the after hours are mostly here, so it stays open late indeed.

Thanks again for the information. I think we decided to stay in this area rather than Crecent street. We were in Montreal last year for the Jazz festival so only know that area but we do want to stay close by to where the festival will be. I located a hotel that seems pretty close, "Hotel St. Dennis". It seems like the outdoor activities will take place at Maisonneve and St. dennis so we should be close by. If you have any other information please feel free to let me know. Thank You again!

Since you've been here, you know how useless a car is to get around town, so I say ditch the car under the Bibliothèque nationale (on Berri street, half-way between de Maisonneuve and Ontario streets)... it's $10 for 24 hours, and you have in-and-out privileges. You might want to figure out how to go through the university to the Berri-UQAM métro stop -- you can get into it at the NE corner of Ste-Catherine and St-Denis, down the stairs, and then follow the corridors that are alas, not very well marked. But it'll be convenient if you want to avoid going through the site, having the security people check your bags, and trying to make your way through the thousands of people gawking at the street theatre when all you really want is to make it back to the hotel for a nice hot bath and to rest your aching feet.
