Hi,

My husband, son (almost 2) and I are going to Vancouver mid august. We should be able to get some family to babysit so that we can go out for a nice romantic anniversary dinner.

We were looking for some suggestions. Something with seafood would be nice, something where the locals would go to, maybe something romantic... just a night out for a couple of hours... any suggestions. We're from Alberta - so unless they serve Alberta Beef, steak isn't at the top of our list of food...

Any help would be great

Thanx in advance

Lots to choose from!

How about Dockside Restaurant Granville Island? Water view, request a window seat.

Hi AnGelz,

There are quite a few places which are romantic and serve good food. It depends on your budget, your preference and your location. Do you prefer downtown or close to where you live? Is there any special cuisine you like? Italian? French? Japanese? West Coast?

If you could let me know answers to the above, i could make a few recommendations

Lots of great romantic places (for me romantic means outside with twinkling lights if possible). Some suggestions:

* Brix in Yaletown - good food and lovely romantic covered patio

*T he Fish House in Stanley Park (not outside, but lovely)

* Seasons in the Park in Queen Elizabeth park - good food and a gorgeous view over the city from a patio with a fireplace

* Il Giardino- great italian food and a lovely outdoor area, and pretty inside ..

For price - we don't want cheap but nothing too expensive... I won't be drinking - my husband will have a couple drinks... perhaps in the $100-200/range with drinks and possible desert.

Seafood is what we're leaning towards - seeing as we're from Alberta and going to the Coast...

Location - inside/outside with a view... anything with good food and where we can easily pass a couple of hours and have a nice relaxing romantic dinner

The Dockside is one restaurant that I will often suggest to others looking for a great city view of Vancouver located on Granville Island which you can have fun exporing before eating.

I can't believe no-one has mentioned the "Top of Vancouver Revolving Restaurant". It is located at 555 West Hastings St. If you google the restaurant it will tell you all about it. It has amazing views, top service, thoroughly recommend.

The Fish House at Stanley park is very good but the parent restaurant, The Cannery is exceptional. The food, the service and the view is exceptional. The Cannery is closing next year because the Port Authority wants the space back so it may be your last chance. It is rated as the #2 restaurant in Vancouver by Tripadvisor.

Also extremely good is Il Guiardino, one of the finest Italian eateries I have been to. It is an old house and the food and service are beyond reproach.

Both are a bit pricey but it is an anniversary and it is well worth it.

Thanx for all the input - we will look into these restaurants and probably make a decision - I'm getting hungry just thinking about all the yummy food at these locations.

Thanx again!!!!

You could also have a look at www.dinehere.ca exellent site with reviews by locals..you can sort by price, food type, location etc.

While it doesn't have a view the Blue Water Cafe has good seafood...as does the Fish House.. almost any of the good restaurants in Vancouver will have seafood as it is very common here. I am not a fan of revolving restaurants.. okay for a drink and a view but not my idea of romantic for dinner. One place I do love for atmosphere and food is Villa del Lupo

Two, a bit more out of the way suggestions:

1) Take tram up to Grouse Mountain, and have dinner at the Observatory Restaurant at the top. (I think it's free tram ride up if you make reservations in advance? Try calling and asking). You will have a prime view of Vancouver at dinner.

2) Take a taxi to the Salmon House Restaurant in West Vancouver. Also great view and good food.
