Going on a girls trip in late Sept. 2008. We ususally travel to Cancun, so this is our first trip to Jamaica. We need some tips from the regulars! We're staying at Riu Ocho Rios

Hello. I can only advise you on the 2 excursions we recently took while in Ocho Rios. We did Dunn's River Falls....a lot of fun. Just stay away from the very, very pushy peddlers at the end on your way out.Our Dunn's trip was part of a "Jeep" safari that took us on a drive through areas around Ochi. It was interesting and we had a great time seeing more of Jamaica than just the ride to & from the resort from the airport. Also did the canopy, or zip line tour through Chukka. We had never done this before and absolutely loved it! I am a little afraid of heights, but this is so worth doing..it was a blast!

Have a great girls trip!!

If you are a Bob Marley fan consider Nine Miles, his birthplace. On your way take a scenic ride through Fern Gully, a rain forest. Dunn's River is great, for the claim of seeing it at least once. There is also Coyaba River Garden and Museum. This is a wonderful botanical garden with a waterfall. It doesn't have the splendor of Dunn's River but it's easier to climb and more enjoyable. The craft market is quite an experience but not for the faint of heart.

if you want to go to nine miles then make a stop in browns town market, definitely worth a visit.

if you want to go abit further then may be consider rio grande rafting tour on bamboo rafts, stunning scenery and soooo relaxing. and further again is port antonio, lovely spot.

My favorite tour was Nine Mile. It was absolutley amazing! We did the Jeep Safari tour through Chukkah and it was about $80 per person which included the admission to get into Nine Mile, water, and a patty for lunch on the way back. Take this tour, you'll see all the awesome views of the Jamaican mountains and its really just amazing.

I'd also recommend river rafting on the White River. It cost $20 and lasts for about an hour. Really nice and chill. You also do a cool cliff dive when you stop half way for a break, which was really fun.

I agree with all the suggestions so far (especially Brown's Town/ Nine Mile)

Another one of my favourites is the Green Grotto Caves which are both beautiful and steeped in history. They're only about 25 minutes from Ochi.

Blessings and respect to you. You're going to LOVE Jamaica!

Dunns river falls

nine mile and agree check out browns town and ? fern gulley, a nice little drive through fern trees

Luminous lagoon is such a great experience too at night.

If you fancy going abit further on a trip and you are a bob marley fan then visit kingston and incorporate strawberry hill in the blue mountains, this was a fantastic trip.

Hey there.... When we were in Ochi we did the Dunn's Falls with the snorkeling trip on the Cool Runnings boat. It was a fantastic trip. Don't let everyone fool you about the Falls though.....They are very hard to climb. I am 35 and had a hard time climbing it. If you decide to do this trip, bring a towel, water shoes, and a waterproof camera. A beautiful sight to see but a muscle cramp waiting to happen. The RIU is fantastic as well as is the staff. Have a great trip. We will be going back in April.

Just before you get to Falmouth take the turnoff to Martha Brae...the river rafting there is idyllic and beautiful....another great place is Cranbrook Flower Forest, a lovely park , planted with gorgeous tropical foliage AND a river runs through it! It would be a lovely setting for a wedding or a picnic lunch! It's located around Priory, before you get to Ochie.

On our recent trip to Ochi we did Dunn's which is a must. It was a bit of an adventure, I'm not sure if I would do it again, but it was worth it to say we did it once.

But my favorite excursion we did was horse back riding on the beach. That was AMAZING - truly the highlight of our trip for both of us and many of the people who were on the tour with us felt that way too. We went through Hooves and would highly recommend them:
