I'm a trip advisor regular, who's never been to Samana, but I just came across this deal out of Toronto that I just had to tell someone about. Belair Travel is offering a Conquest Vacations "Bahia Samana Roulette" (i.e. of of their four area hotels) for $319 Canadian leaving Monday July 14... and about a hundred bucks more then that leaving week after (which may go down next week as well)!

I've just gotten off the phone with my wife (the sensible one) who came up with a dozen reasons why we couldn't go even though I argued that we couldn't take a week off in the city and spend less then that.

Oh well, If someone out there takes them up on it let me know so I can live vicariously through you!!

I have been to Samana twice already staying at the El Portillo. My husband and I are going July 21st with the roulette deal. Of course at this point I'm not sure which of the two resorts we will be booked at but the Cayacoa looks awesome as well so it looks like a win win situation. We felt to that we couldn't get this kind of holiday for the price. It is an absolutely beautiful destination and I would highly recommend it to everyone who loves mountains, palm trees and a place that isn't wall to wall resorts like Varadero and Punta Cana etc. Feel free to email me if you have any more questions or need further convincing. I doubt that you will ever see this bargain price again.

at today's exchange rate $319CDN is worth about $315 US (about 155 pounds?)

As far as needing convincing to go to Samana... it wouldn't take much! I've been to Punta Cana (the Bahia Principe and the Ambar next door, as well as the Excellence up the coast). I've been intrigued by the remoteness of the Samana resorts and would love to go.

If the same deal is available in about two weeks we just might take them up on it.

Enjoy your trip!

Lucy,

You mention only two hotels... have you heard that the B.P. Samana and the Cayo Leventado are not included in the roulette?

No the roulette is the El Portillo and Cayacoa only. Don't care which resort we get booked into for they each have something special to offer in scenery & location etc. We won't find out till next Friday which resort we'll be staying at with the roulette. The $319.00 you quoted is of course not including the taxes which are an additional $368.00. Not sure whether the Europeans have these tax issues like we do in Canada. It would be great if we didn't have those to add in wouldn't it?? Thanks for your well wishes regarding our trip. Hope you get there with your wife.

Hi Lou, I noticed the same deal and couldn't believe the price either . . . thought there had to be something wrong or going on at the resort. I understand from someone at work that one of the hotels, not sure which one, is actually 90 minutes away from the airport and has a small beach. Can anyone confirm which hotel is further from the airport and which one has the better beach of the two hotels on the "Bahia Saman Roulette" deal. BTW, the price is now $519 before taxes leaving on July 28th. Thanks!!

El Portillo is a bit further of a drive from the airport but it also has the beach that goes on forever. Am staying at the Bahia Principe Cayacoa this time so I'm sure I will notice quite a difference in beaches but the setting of the Cayacoa looks gorgeous and I can also walk to the town of Samana which is minutes away. The town of Las Tarrenas is about a 10 minute drive if that but about 1 hour via the beach from the El Portillo. It's beautiful there so you can't go wrong with either resort if you go with the Roulette for the better price through Conquest.

Thanks Lucy & Dave :) Bahia Principe Cayacoa is the one I would rather go to if given a choice, however, if the price drops considerable again, it's worth taking the chance versus booking none roulette for $200 more a person. Enjoy your trip!!

Samana is an awesome area. Beautiful beaches and a tropical atmosphere. I would prefer the El Portillo to the Caya Coa but both have great qualities. That is a great deal by the way!
