At an A/I you will only spend money if you go looking to spend money. if you plan on not leaving the resort then us$ is fine otherwise I'd work in pesos. In my experience of people who go to DR, go out and mingle a bit on the local town, do a few trips and blow a little at the casino, £700-£1000 is more than enough.

Me and my partner did a few trips went out every other night on the town probably drank a bit much, ate at some of the local restaurants, lost a bit at the casino and only spent about £650-750 (this was several years ago), and that was doing it some for us. I know some like to chuck money around when in poor countries so I'd probs estimate inbetween, depends what kind of a spender you are. I'm quite tight and don't tip people for just standing in a doorway like some may.

All this take $200 in single bills to tip with is mad in my opinion. I struggle to find people to tip on an A/I resort, apart from the maid. Tip outside of the resort as normal for meals service etc, leave the change for the barmaidafter a few drinks etc. but I wouldn't worry about all this prioritising designated money for tips.

Hope I've helped a little, if not confuded you even more ;-)

Hi Marueen,

You can figure that tours will run between $70 to 90 per person.

And if you want to take money to tip you can figure how much a day you would want to tip the maid, bar tenders or waiters ...bell boys and anyone else you might want to include

And if you want to go to the spa for massage or treatments...

I normally take about $200 in USD 1 dollar bills

another 200 in 5 dollar bills and then another 200 in 10's and 20's.

Hope this helps a bit...

Anything I don't use..goes in the "kitty" for the next trip!

Happy Travels,

bb/mt

You can go and spend nothing at all so don't worry about it, you have paid for everything you need to enjoy yourself. If you don't want to do the trips or can't afford it then you can just lounge around the pool or on the beach without spending a single pesos on the entire holiday.

Hi scrubmuncher, Thanks for your reply. I am hoping to do a few excursions. Will take some $1 bills for tipping, planning on spending a lot of time on the beach near the bar.
