Hi--

After reading many posts, I haven't been able to find out hours/experiences/ages served (good? bad?) relating to the children's actitivities at FS. We are staying at the Fairmont Hamilton the last week of March. Anybody who's been there care to comment?

Many thanks,

Kate

While there is some sort of minimal children's program available at the FAIRMONT SOUTHAMPTON HOTEL...to the best of my knowledge there isn't any sort of '..children's program..' operating at the FAIRMONT HAMILTON PRINCESS (which has been repositioned as more of a 'business class' hotel over the past decade or so.

But if you're of the more liberally minded sort of parenting...they may allow your kids to participate in the Cuban cigar and brandy sessions in the hotel's lounge...an experience they're unlikely to have at their politically-correct schools at home. Being able to distinguish the subtle differences between brandies and cognacs...and Cuban from Domminican cigars may be a skill set that may come in handy someday in the corporate boardroom....or on a 'realty TV' program....or Prom night.

I do know that the hotel maintains a list of baby-sitters...but you would probably have to contact the hotel's Concierge desk directly for this...and any other children's accommodations.

Good morning

I tried to buzz them for you .. but the coordinator wasn't at the desk. The number to the hotel is 1 441 295 3000 if you want to talk to them directly.

If you are coming for the Easter holidays .. Good Friday is a very big tradition day for us... and most hotels will run special traditional activities such as kite making (quite an art) and kite flying. Good friday the island flies kites!! the bermuda kite is built from colourful tissue paper and sticks .. they are gorgeous ... and you will hear the island humming from the "hummers" that people put on the kites. It is a tradition to have codfish cakes and hot cross buns and to go to Horseshoe beach to join in the kite flying activities and competitions. There are categories for children and visitors too .. and we have a tug of war competition with the visitors. Easter Sunday there are easter egg hunts and church services .. it is a big family day with most people having a meal similar to your Thanksgiving .. but instead of sweet potatoes ...we have a traditional dish called Cassava Pie served with our meal .. you have to try it!!

The private schools are on holiday over that week as well .. the government schools only get the holiday weekend .. so there are plenty of island wide activities to do too ... you may not want to stay at the hotel. Be sure to take them to see the dolphins even if you dont want to do an encounter ... and being a mum myself .. i find that the children are usually quite happy just to spend a day at the beach. Hamilton Fairmont is not near a beach ... it is a city hotel .. so you may prefer the Southampton one which has a fun childrens pool, a private beach and is adjacent to the famous Horseshoe beach where all the action will be on Good Friday!!

Enjoy!!!
