snorkeling diving vacation/ island and resort suggestions |
|
We are trying to decide where to go next March (2009) for about 10 days of great snorkeling, diving, and relaxation. We are a family of 4, our daughter and son are 15 and 21. They are beginning divers. We are trying to choose between Bocos Del Toro, Roatan, Fiji, Cook Islands, or?????? We prefer a hotel/ resort with a restaurant, and maybe AC if needed. All Inclusives are NOT our thing generally speaking, and we would like a place where snorkeling is good right from the beach. Not looking to go backpackers budget hotel or break the bank. Prefer a place with 15-50 rooms or so. Suggestions for destination and resort/hotel please. |

My husband and I love snorkeling in St. John in the US Virgin Islands. We have been three times. We usually rent a car or a jeep and visit the various beaches on the island. You can snorkel right off the beach. We stayed at the Westin, which is so-so. The Westin is both a timeshare and a hotel. You may be able to book someone's timeshare unit for cheaper than what the hotel would charge you. One website for renting timeshares is called redweek.com.

Have you considered Curacao? My daughter is 16 and was certified last year. My husband has bee diving for long time. She prefered the diving in Curacao over Hawaii and it's alot closer (for us!) We stayed at PApagayo Beach Resort and you can look up my review on this site!

it looks like money is no object... what about bora bora? friends went for honeymoon and they rave about it.

Money no object? Are you kidding? Flying to the South Pacific at spring time is twice the costs to flying to the Caribbean or Central America. We would love to go to Bora Bora, but $$$ is exactly why we don't.

I realize my first question posted quite awhile ago makes it seem like money was no object, but after checking out the different locations and what it cost to get there...the South Pacific became undoable.

Riviera Maya in Mexico? Reasonably priced (comparatively) and amazing snorkeling and diving. Many different options for hotels as well.
