Yes it's true the rooms do need updating but I would much rather stay here than a chain hotel. Food is usually very good and well priced, a fair wine list also fairly priced. I reguarly take groups of bikers on Wales tours and always stay here. Staff go out of there way to ensure all is ok. Many members... more

We used the Brynafon hotel as a base for a weekend tour of Wales and everyone has said how good it was. Rooms were all fine, food was very good and the service excellent. Can't understand some of the above negative comments, our group found it fine. Clive. more

An average hotel in the nice village of Rhayader, Wales, The hotel room was not very impressive - it was in need of refurbishment - there was not really a main 'room' but rather just 2 bedrooms and a bathroom, very weird layout. Also - the beds were not made when we arrived but housekeeping promptly sorted it out so... more

This is a lovely country hotel. Built on the site of a Victorian Workhouse, the place is beautifully situated outside Rhayader. My room was spacious, well furished and clean. The food in the dining room was very good and the staff was helpful. more

Only stayed the one night in Brynafon, but needless to say will not entertain staying there again. Stayed in Rowen 2, a bedroom with twin beds and on suite. The room was extremely dated and in dire need of updating. Ceiling had large cobwebs, dust in corners, on lamp shades and radiators. The bedspreads on both beds had stains on... more

Easy to find, plenty of parking out front (private - not on the main road). Reception friendly and welcoming. My (double) room was small for 1 and would probably be very cramped for 2, was also in need of redecoration and the TV remote was for a different brand of TV than that supplied. However, the bed was lovely and... more

A mixed bag. Parts of the hotel were really shabby. Our room was well decorated, but dirty (cobwebs, thick dust, mould on windows etc) and the bathroom had very good, modern fittings but was let down on detail (no soap rack in shower, shower compartment too small to bend to pick up soap from the floor, dirty splashes on communicating... more

We went for an Easter weekend. Hotel is old but clean and comfortable, best hotel bed for a long time. Food, in restaurant, very good with a good selection and reasonable wine list. Only caveat is that the Sunday evening menu is just Sunday Lunch; it would have been nicer to have the regular menu. more

What an odd hotel. It's an old workhouse that's been converted into a hotel. I stayed with my family for 1 night. We'd booked a 'luxury family room' which was actually a rather grotty flat, with a scruffy kitchen downstairs & 2 bedrooms upstairs. I would't describe it as dirty ( the bed linen was clean) but rather in need... more
