For true Highland hospitality come to the Highlander, a hotel renowned for its good food and warm welcome. The hotel is an ideal base for touring the North of Scotland with mountain ranges, forests, lochs and river valleys waiting to be explored. Wind down in our inviting restaurant serving an array of dishes made from locally sourced produce. Perhaps a wee dram from the bar would suit; choose a whisky from one of the many local distilleries for which this area is famous for throughout the world. more » « less

We stayed here as part of an Insight Bus Tour called Country Roads of Scotland. The room was OK - no telephone, small, but fairly clean. Part of the Oxford Group of hotels in the highlands, it is a group of buildings, mainly catering to tour groups. Our room had twin beds (seems to be the norm) and the in... more

My wife and I have just returned home from a superb holiday in the Highlander Hotel in Newtonmore. We stayed in the hotel for three nights and would gladly have stayed longer if we had not had to go home to work! Although catering mainly for coach tour groups this hotel was equally welcoming to us, private holiday makers. We... more

Phoned the Highlander direct the day before i travelled and got a good price for a single upgraded to a twin room with breakfast. The hotel staff were friendly and helpfull and got me into my room just after 11am as i was in the village of Newtonmore early which allowed me to get on with my activities that day.... more

Very minimal hotel. Accommodated several tour groups at once. Would not consider going there unless though a tour. Given location, not sure there were much better hotels - especially given cost. Dinner at hotel was ok, but nothing to write home about. Nothing to do in town (what there was of it). more

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay at the Highlander Hotel. I was very concerned and dismayed to read your thoughts, especially given the number of positive comments received about the hotel. In relation to the local area, there are certainly things to do as can be seen from the review on 22nd May. We pride ourselves greatly on...

Stayed 2 nights, very helpful and courteous staff, comfortable room, food perfectly acceptable. We booked thru easy-breaks and got a very good rate. Great location, don't miss the FREE Highland museum across the road. Elisabeth on the desk recommended it ,said we would need 2or 3 hours to cover it. not being big on that sort of thing,we were sceptical, but it was really... more

Stayed 6 nights at this hotel as part of a ski package. Was not sure what to expect given other reviews, but had a great time. The accommodation could do with an upgrade but was still very comfortable. The friendliness and helpfulness of all of the staff was greatly appreciated and the food was excellent. My family and I can't... more

Stayed three nights but one night was really enough. Staff pleasant and tried hard to make us feel welcome but this 'hotel' is really a 'motel', largely catering for large coach parties staying one night only and is seriously in need of an upgrade. The bathroom (could have been cleaner ) was very generous in size but contained no bath,... more

We are a young couple in our 20's who stayed at the Highlander Hotel for 2 nights during Feb. 2007 for a weekend break. Picked this hotel due to a great offer price through easybreak holidays. Plenty of car parking close to all rooms on arrival. Room was bigger than any other hotel room we have stayed in and was... more
