This place if OK by me. I can understand the basis for some of the bad reviews but overall the Golden Gate worked out fine for me and my girlfriend on a recent visit to Coney Island for the AVP tournament. Yes it's older. Yes there was some less than classy clientèle. Yes it could use a coat of paint... more

There was the NY marathon so it was hard to get a hotel, except this dive. Everything was outdated and I have a knock onmy door asking if I "wanted company". I also got a phone call to my room asking for me name (someone I DID NOT know). I also requested a non-smoking room but upon arrival there was... more

Boy did I have trepidations after reading the review (as did my teenage daughter) but we were pleasantly surprised when we checked in. Staff were courteous and helpful. The room had new furniture and carpeting (but ok, it's not the Sheraton Dream bed) but you can't beat it for the price which is important to many of us. very conveniently... more

We arrived to the hotel around 11 pm on a Saturday night. Thank goodness we arrived so late or we would have probably gone else where. In Florida, a $125 will get you a lot more- for one it will get you an elevator that doesn't eat you. As the doors close- don't try to keep them open, your limbs... more

I do not know why this hotel keeps receiving terrible reviews. My boyfriend and I have stayed there one weekend a summer for the past three years, and each year it is a bit more impressive. This past trip, I was very pleased to find that new ownership/ management has led to a friendlier staff, more hospitable rooms, and an... more

From the moment I entered the lobby and saw what looked like a drug deal, I wished I had driven elsewhere, but it was too late. I entered the stairway where a couple was sitting and didnt want to move to let me pass. the hallways smelled and the room wasnt any better. The floor and bed were covered in... more

the hallway smelled, the bedroom smelled like smoke, the walls are thin and i could hear everything next door and in the hallway, the vending machine was broken, the room was old, and the continental breakfast was aweful. My most terrible hotel experience ever, not to mention i paid $145 a night for it! Do yourself a favos, take my... more

I'm a single Mom and wanted to take my son to see New York. We stayed here and it wasn't all that bad. I wasn't looking for a deluxe place to stay, just a place to sleep get up and go to NYC. We stayed a few nights and had no bad experience. I kind of had a wierd smell... more

On checking in on 30th November we were immediately shocked that the desk staff said nothing to a person, we assume was a resident, shouting and screaming abuse in the lobby. The first and second nights stay were interrupted by doors slamming, groups of men hanging around the first floor corridor and people with heavy Russian accents running up and... more

We were a little hesitant to stay here after reading the previous reviews, but those were not true. It was clean, well-maintained, and the staff was very helpful. As we were checking-in, there was a wedding party arriving. It was quite nice. Sure, there were a lot of colorful characters there (people with tattoes, guys dressed as video gangsters and... more
