The hotel was built to compete with the Four Seasons in nearby Carlsbad. The Grand Del Mar has a wonderful property, 2 large pools for families with children overlooking the golf course and 1 adult pool adjacent to the spa. I think on the pool level they beat the Four Season's; FS has 1 very crowded family pool. I had... more

From the moment we entered these premises, we were in awe - the most beautiful setting with rolling fairways, swimming pools and palm trees - a real oasis. This hotel rating should be a 6 star. We are well- travelled and very fussy travellers. It is a brand new hotel with all the luxuries you can imagine - from gold... more

My husband's company put us up here for a retreat. This is by far, hands-down, the NICEST PLACE I have ever stayed at, and I've stayed at some pretty nice places! It's brand-new, just opened in Oct. 2007. It's everything you could possibly want and more! It is VERY EXPENSIVE, and we wouldn't stay there on our own unless it... more

I write this review as I'm sadly returning home to Los Angeles. I had the most spectacular weekend at The Grand Del Mar in San Diego. I really could have stayed another 5 days, without stepping a foot out of the resort, or experiencing an ounce of boredom. I felt like a member of the Royal family-having tasted some of... more

I don't know what some of the complaints on this site were about. We had a fantastic experience at the Grand Del Mar. Facilities are top notch, better than any domestic resort I've stayed at. The attention to detail in the construction is quite striking. The resort was built like a custom home and not like a hotel in the... more

I just came back from a stay at the new Grand Del Mar in San Diego. I have never stayed at a property with so many amazing amenities. (Check out the hike in the preserve with a Naturalist on staff! WOW) The pools were great and there is even a quiet pool when we needed get away from the kids.... more

I have to stay upfront I didn't stay here... just came for a nice resort lunch. I left very disappointed... and about $45 poorer. All for some subpar sandwiches from the deli. Long story. The hotel is located in a suburb of San Diego. A very nice suburb, but nothing special. It's profoundly landlocked, which for a resort hotel is... more

This was a nice resort and staff was ok. Website is filled with awards saying it is one of the best hotels in America. This is a joke. If you like a big hotel with slow service crowded with none hotel guests this is the place to be. Yes, the hotel is nice both inside and from the outside. The... more

It's obvious that no expense was spared when building this property. The architecture and surroundings are beautiful, and it's a good choice for a golf or romantic getaway. Here's the good and the bad from my point of view: The Good: Rooms are beautiful and spacious, with all the 5 star appointments. Bathrooms really are stunning with big tub and... more

The Grand Del Mar was a very nice hotel. It is somewhat overpowering with a lot of marble flooring and high ceilings. You can defiantly tell the resort is new. When we asked for Ice no one knew where it was. Finally the ice arrived by room service and we felt we had to tip. The hotel is not in... more
