We stayed at the Sofia during a 2 night visit to San Diego and loved it! - The reception staff were friendly and helpful (allowing us to check-in early and giving us a top floor corner room with great views. ) - The room was well decorated and a decent size (if a bit smaller than the average US hotel... more

We checked prices online and then called the hotel directly. They matched the lowest online price and gave us a free room upgrade to a king because the queen wasn't actually available for all the nights of our stay. We brought our 50 lb. dog. There were a couple of extra fees to be aware of. Parking is valet only... more

Went for New Years with my wife. Perfect place for the price. Tiny rooms, but they are all redone and look pretty good. Starts getting into a part of downtown that may scare those from the suburbs.....but to you, i suggest going somewhere like Disneyland. more

at first glance the sofia hotel was seemingly ok, but once inside it proved to be a different story. i found the rooms to be extremely tiny and far too crowded for 2 people to share a queen size room. i also found the staff to be entirely unhelpful. One night after a late dinner, our key was not working... more

We were initially apprehensive about staying in a hotel with "small" rooms (as other reviewers mentioned), but we loved it! The hotel had history and charm and was still trendy and upscale. We got a good deal on Expedia for 4th of July weekend and went with the queensized room. The room was small but no space was wasted and... more

We have just returned from a week at the Sofia. The hotel is magnificent and we have never experienced such incredible room service/cleaning. It was so lovely to stay at a small boutique hotel in an original building built in the 1940's. ideally located in the Gaslamp Quarter and yes is located right next to bus station but no noise... more

My boyfriend and I just had a mixed experience at the Sofia Hotel this weekend: THE GOOD: THE PRICE - The Sofia was almost half the price of our other favorite San Diego hotels. THE LOCATION - While the immediate neighborhood can have some sketchy characters (it's next to a bunch of bail bond shops and a Greyhound station), it's... more

So, I read several reviews of The Sofia and I was pretty confident in the research I'd done, most reviews were great....and then there were some not so great reviews that concerned me. But, I realize that different travelers have different needs and expectations. So here goes: My husband and I (early 30s and extensive travelers) stayed at the Sofia... more

I stayed at The Sofia for 6 days in June 2008. The hotel is on the National Historic Register and was built many years ago. It was completely refurbished a year or two ago and they have done a really nice job with it. The rooms are small, as can be expected with any older hotel, but nicely appointed with... more

I stayed at the Sofia hotel while I was in town for a convention. It is in a very convenient location - in the evening we walked from the convention center through the Gaslamp Quarter and right to the hotel. There are many restaurants nearby, it is a very quick ride to the airport, and the corner coffee shop is... more
