The owner of this hotel if pompous and rude. I needed to find just one night's lodging close to a conference because of a mix up with another hotel reservation. I knew it would be difficult, but the owner of this hotel was rude and condescending on the phone. I tried to call back later to talk with someone else... more

The hotel is very old, therefore, it will cannot be considered as other 5 star hotels like the Westin, which is behind it. It was very comfortable and clean. The owner and his son were very nice to us. The location was FANTASTIC and the contentinal breakfast was also great. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to pay... more

Do not stay here. The place looks more like a dirty warehouse full of antiques than a hotel. The breakfast that was to be included with our stay was never available and the dinner reservations made were never honored, in fact there was no one in the kitchen, or no, there was no kitchen to begin with. The place should... more

We went to the Jewel of Newbury because all hotels were occupied. We met the owner who was very strange and a bit scary. His mood swinged within one minute! After a sightseeing in the hotel we didn't choose to stay here. It was worn out, a very scary owner and no other guests. He wouldn't let us go and... more

I guess I should have known that there was an issue when I called to make a resevation and a very young child answered the phone and just said hello. When asked if this was the "Jewel", they went to get someone that was just barely older. I was told that the price would be about $275. for the night... more

As most other reviewers have noted, the owner is rude and intimidating. Do not give your credit card details, he charges the card before you even get there. The airconditioning was not on during a hot period in Boston. He checks you in to a room with joint facilities (who wants that these days?) and when you ask for a... more

It's really cool place--different than the rest--different experience with its unique location, it's a nice place to stay there for three nights or so. We stay there for two nights and the whole experience is different. What I mean by different is it's not usual to know the owner of a hotel or to order your tea or coffee from... more

The owner of this place is arrogant, unbelieveably rude, and awkward. After all ready charging our credit card we were informed as we walked in the door that we were not allowed to stay there because we were "young, white, girls". He then tried to show us the room when he knew that he was going to loose our business.... more

This hotel was extremely uncomfortable & the owner was extremely rude. I purchased a rate on-line and when I got there he told me that if I wanted a private room it would be $150 more. I stayed in a non-private room and had to share a bathroom with 3 men (and I am a single woman travelling on business).... more
