Mental asylum! There are permanent residents who live there who you'd mistake for a homeless person. The hostel is very creepy. I was fool to book for three nights and pay all upfront, and then realized why they don't give refunds if you want to change your mind and stay elsewhere. It's terrible, and you will know why after the... more

The accomodation is above average from a hostal and has a clean room. The centre is well kept and safe. The location is great for night life, bars and shopping yet quiet enough to get a good nights sleep. No problems here for the money paid. It's basic so don't expect too much. more

As Boston is very short on Hostels so this worked out perfect for us. The building is big and colourful and It has great facilitys such as a laundry room and a canteen. Our room was very clean and had everything we needed. The staff were very friendly and informative with maps and coupons off stuff. There is a handy... more

This hostel is very, very nice. Nice peole at the desk, nice lounge with internet, tv, a piano and a little library with comfortable coach to sit and read. Rooms are very clean and big. Shared bathroom very clean. Everything is new and recently painted. There is people who stayed there long terms. Breafast included was very good (pancakes, sauseges,... more

This place is spartan - reminds me of a college room. I stayed because it was only $60 a night (that includes breakfast but I left early so didn't try it). I spent almost no time in the room but did take my laptop to the mezzanine floor where there's free internet. At 1 point I went into the phone... more

I have stayed at the Berkeley twice and would do so again. The Berkeley reminds me of a typical college dormitory: basic, minimally furnished rooms; shared bathrooms, cafeteria in the basement, and a piano and TV in the recreation area. Like shared bathrooms in college dorms, the bathrooms here have some of the same annoyances-- i.e., hair in the shower... more

Very neat and clean shared facilities, clean and adequate doublerooms, generous breakfast. Friendly staff. Safe. Great location with walking distance to almost everything. Very nice to stay at a place where you meet "ordinary people" - not only tourists - and also contribute to YWCAs most honourable work. It is a bit old, but it is well kept and a... more

the hostel was absolute fine. I stayed there 2 nights and would go back every time. Staff and people there are very friendly. It's a good neighborhood and I like my time there. In comparison to other hostels I experienced is it acceptable. more

Having now stayed at the Berkeley Residence I can see why there are such varying reviews of it. On the negative side it is quite institutional and not really like other hostels or budget hotels I have experienced. The bathrooms were on the whole, fairly clean although I did have problems getting any hot water out of the shower. The... more

I think some of the reviews on here have done this place an injustice. For sure the rooms are basic but they are clean, the staff are very friendly , the breakfast is great and its within a five minute walk of downtown Boston, what more do you want for the price. Yes there are residents around, it's there home... more
