I recently traveled to San Francisco with two of my friends for a weekend trip. We stayed in The Hotel California and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The rooms weren't excessively large, but they were adequate considering that you don't really spend much time in a hotel room anyway. Two of the gentlemen at the front desk, Duane and Tony,... more

The room was very nice, albeit a bit small (San Francisco after all). Very clean and interestingly decorated. The rest of the hotel, though, seemed a bit neglected -- in need of a bit of sprucing up--we had been in the hotel last year (not to stay but to eat at the adjoining restaurant-- which is a gem--The Millenium--a vegetarian... more

Reading the other reviews I wonder if I am talking about the right place - I am, I checked. I stayed here May 14-17 and hated this hotel. The whole place smelled of pee - it made you gag when you walked in! And if it smells like that then it can't be clean surely? There was a heat wave... more

This review is completely uncalled for. We pride ourselves on having a very clean and well - maintained property. By looking at the other reviews on this site, it is clear that the reviewers think so as well. Also, if you were so uncomfortable in your room, the front desk would have been more than happy to switch you into...

Don't let the name "Best Western" fool you- this is a old-fashioned, unique hotel. I really love this hotel- it is a great location, only blocks from Union Square. You can walk to shopping & dining - there is a lot to do in the vincinity, so you don't necessarily need a vehicle. The rates are reasonable (around $120 /... more

Found this hotel by accident and really lucked out. Warm, inviting rooms with a strong Cali-european ambience. Super comfortable beds, helpful staff, delicious vegetarian restaurant and access to many attractions and public transportation make this a hidden gem- a true find. Most attractive of all is the affordability of price in the heart of San Francisco. Free wireless internet was... more

We loved this hotel for its character and personality, as well as the amenities and the service. The staff was always friendly and helpful. The complimentary wine and cheese receptions were a highlight, with California wine! We also had free round-the-clock coffee and hot tea. There's a great lobby with huge comfortable chairs, and a media room at the mezzanine... more

I wasn't "forced" to book this hotel, but it was the location where the conference I had enrolled in was, so I went ahead and booked it without doing my usual "due diligence" in shopping for the "right" hotel. My plan was to book a nice room and have my family meet me at the end of the week, since... more

Unusually pleasant stay. Has one of the best vegetarian restaurants I have EVER experienced (I'm picky and a meat eater and I was entirely satisfied). Front desk staff also acts as perfect understudy for otherwise absent full-time concierge, plus they're funny, smart, helpful. Playful lobby music had me bobble-headed and wiggly while awaiting the elevator, complimentary shot of tequilla upon... more

i have stayed at the hotel california several times. i enjoy the accessability to union square shopping, eateries, and nightlife. the hotel houses one of the best vegetarian restaurants in the world--the millenium. i had a major problem with the staff and the management. the front desk charged me $100 for smoking in the room. i was not smoking in... more

This was a nice hotel, with a few little problems. Nice breakfast included, staff friendly and helpful. Free computer and printer available. Room was clean and tidy with individual decor. On the downside it was quite noisy and as the hotel is fairly old, you could hear lots of plumbing noises as well as the street noise from outside. Didn't... more
