This hotel is perfectly situated on the Lahaina waterfront a little bit out of town but only a short drive into Lahaina, or a few minute drive in the other direction to Ka'anapali. Beware: NO NOISE is allowed to be made at this hotel. The Lahaina Canery Mall is situated just down the road and contains shopping, an ABC store,... more

I had a 9 day stay in Maui with my sister and her 18y/o daughter. We started out with a few nights at the Sheraton which was nice but we decided to change hotels after 5 nights. We talked to a local and they recommended the Makai Inn. We called and they had a room available so we booked it.... more

This is a small, non-chain inn just outside of Lahaina town center. Reasonably inexpensive, clean, but older. "Apartments" are very small, but adequate for 1 or 2 people max. All units have older "island" decor. Small kitchen with small, gas stove and full sized refrigerator has disposal and limited cooking utensils. Some units has dedicated lanais, but most do not.... more

Just came across this place while driving down the road, looking for a place. I checked it out. The folks running the place were cool people, and the garden and view were lovely. The room was clean enough, and I liked the homey feel (stuffed animal on bed, lots of knick-knacks around.) However, when bedtime came around, I found it... more

We stayed in the Hibiscus Hideaway for a week in the middle of May. We were two adults with a 14-month baby/toddler in Maui for a wedding. We chose the Makai Inn ahead of time mainly because of the price being so low. I was pleasantly surprised when I called and found out tax was included in the price on... more

This place was pure heaven - great price, great location, great view, beautiful room - I would definately go back. You can see the ocean from your room and the waves are the only thing you hear as you fall asleep at night. No swimming here, but you can stand by the ocean and watch the sunset - and we... more

We stayed in the Ginger Hideaway for a week in April, on our first visit to Maui. We loved Maui and will definitely return, and will stay at Makai Inn every time. We chose it over the many many condo options because of the location (close to town, and right on the water), the promise of quiet, and the price.... more

This place was a nightmare. From the moment we checked in we felt incredibly unwelcome. We were told to pay particular attention to The Rules (two A4 pages of rules) "because of where we were from". The unit smelled bad and the sheets had not been freshly washed. There were crumbs and food still in the fridge and presses. We... more

This place is not the Ritz. Can we get that out of the way? Good. It's a bit worn around the edges (a few new fixtures and a little paint would be great), but it's location and overall vibe are amazing. The innkeepers are very laid back, and expect you to be while you're here (quiet = good). Rooms are... more

Ginger Hideaway.. We just returned from a vacation to Maui. The first 3 nights we stayed at the Makai Inn a short drive to downtown Lahaina. This is not a fancy resort, but a quant little inn on the water (not beach, but on the water) If you like waves crashing on the rocks with a fantastic view this could... more
