This was a beautiful, newly renovated hotel. Great location with a lovely park on the lake across the street. Paid $139 per night the weekend of the Irish Festival. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were small but charming with a fully equipped kitchen and large walk in closets. The city bus system was excellent. We took the bus... more

This hotel has a very nice homey feel to it, and, because of its age, is full of character. The lobby and the rooms reflect the fact that it was built in the 1930's in a positive way. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They did accidentally double assign the room, but were quick to apologize. The hotel is... more

Here is the letter I sent to the manager. As of July 2, 2008, no response. This speaks to the lack of leadership at the hotel as well...I want to share my Knickerbocker hotel experience with you. Yesterday I checked in for a one night stay. (I live in the Milwaukee area but had a function at the Yacht club.)... more

While the exterior of the hotel is lovely, it gets worse and worse as you get further in. The lobby looks like it was frozen in time but is elegant. Upon check in you will be handed a key, yes a REAL key - when was the last time you saw one of those. Upon entering the elevator, you will... more

The name of this hotel is not to imply you actually can see a lake, it just means you're close to it. If you like very old hotels with no ammenities than this is the perfect dump if just looking for a bed to sleep in. The rooms are so old with 50 layers of paint piled over each other... more

We stayed in a 1bedroom that was lovely and fully updated with a beautiful view of the lake. The owner had had a professional designer do her place and we really liked it. We left for a few days to tour, and came back to be assigned a different room that I didn't like at all because of a bad... more

The others reviewers who gave this one star are totally right -- this place is a complete dump. It looks kind of charming on the outside but the room I stayed in was really dirty and stale smelling. The decor is tacky. Furniture is uncomfortable. And worst, the toilet did not work...was clogged. Horrible! Thank god I only had to... more

We were very lucky to stay at the Knickerbocker this past weekend. In my traveling party were my husband, sister and her husband, and my parents. We actually had not intended to stay at the Knickerbocker, but we had issues with another hotel and had to switch to this hotel. We had a lovely room on the first floor. It... more

This place was a total disappointment. We have a small child and needed a suite so that we could have separate sleeping rooms. But the pull-out couch was broken. When I told the front desk, the woman said that she was sorry but there was nothing to be done. I spent $169 to sleep on the damn floor in a... more
