I stayed with my wife and two little kids three nights in the Chalfonte. The first two nights we stayed in the Cottage. There we had two bedrooms which were simple but nice. Good thing: We had our own terrasse. The bath room was outside the room, which was ok but it needs some serious upgrades and it was dirty.... more

My husband, 4 year old son and I stayed at the Chalfonte the last week in July. We got a room with a private bath so we didn't have to walk down the hall in the middle of the night- but the hotel wasn't crowded so I think we would have been fine getting a room without a bath. The... more

A close acquaintance used my laptop and booked the hotel for the that very day instead of the next day. Within the hour, I was on the phone with a pleasant person who jotted down the reason for my call and assured me a person would be in touch soon. Several hours later, I received a call from the hotel... more

We've been coming to the Chalfante for years and it always meets our expectations. You can bring the whole family and not worry about sandy feet on polished floors or wet bathing suits on showy Victorian furniture. Another great benefit, if you're travelling with teenagers, is no worries about them fighting about who's hogging the bathroom; there are multiple facilities... more

The oldest continuously operating hotel on the East Coast open since 1877. A Italian cube structure, with most of its original construction intact. The Ritz its not... The rooms have the original wood floors, so no musty odors that you get at most beach hotels. There is no AC, just a ceiling fan in the rooms. A nice breeze at... more

The Chalfonte is not the place for everyone -- thankfully! If you are looking for a retreat from the husle and bustle of your day-to-day life this may be the place for you. If you are seeking well apointed, metropolitan rooms with all the bells and whistles -- forget the Chalfonte -- Cape May probably isn't for you. Try Avalon!... more

I have been staying at the Chalfonte since 1996.I try to stay for 10 days in July and 10 days in August. If you are looking for saunas, airconditioning and an impersonal staff the Chalfonte is not for you. However if you enjoy total relaxation, a staff that treats you like an old friend, excellent food ,and lively conversations on... more

From the outside, this hotel looks nice. It has lovely wrap around porches to relax and read or watch the world go by. However, if you actually need to sleep at the end of your day, FORGET the Chalfonte. The beds are so poor and even the tiniest movement makes the old bed squeak loudly. The terrible, sagging mattress may... more

After reading the negative reviews on this site, I felt, as some others did, compelled to write a review. I have stayed at the Chalfonte for over 20 years now. I'm a world traveler, being in the travel business as a sideline, and have stayed in more crazy hotels from Andorra to Majorca to who-knows-where else. And the one hotel... more

The Chalfonte is a beautiful building, but there are issues. We had to park our car about two blocks away, haul our bags up to the third floor and wait in line to take a shower on Friday night, but that was ok with us. A/C would have been nice, but there was a nice breeze blowing in the window... more
