My family of five visited Virginia City as we had some history there. After reading the reviews of the Gold Hill Hotel, we decided to experience some history. We stayed in rooms 11 & 12, because of the adjoining doors. The rooms were clean, air conditioned, and the bed in 12 was absolutely the most comfortable hotel bed I stayed... more

We spent 2 nights here, July 2nd and 3rd. We booked the Miners Rest, the only room in which pets are allowed. This is in a building at the back of the property which adjoins the original old mine. At one time it served as offices for the mine, and much of the original character remains. The building is actually... more

Let me start off by saying that the manager, Melody, is a very nice, very friendly woman. I hesitated to write this review, but then I realized how much I rely on the honesty of Tripadvisor reviewers in making my travel choices. It would be a disservice to anyone using this site and considering a stay at Gold Hill NOT... more

Great hotel. We stayed here for our last night before flying back home to Chicago. We stayed in room 12 expecting a quiet night since it is not part of the hotel that is supposedly haunted. We were in for a night of surprises. First we went to the bar, which is very homey. Dollar bills are hanging on all... more

This little gem run by the Fain Family, is a wonderful place to visit. The hotel is suppossedly haunted, but we were staying in the new part of the hotel. The only thing that was a little annoying was that the toilet kept running all night, but we turned off the valve and things went back to beautiful. The wood... more

We have always been fascinated with the history and character of the past. The Gold Hill Hotel is the most remarkable place for a true feeling of the Old West and the simplicity of how life was back in that time. Room #12 was perfect for us with a balcony overlooking the valley. We loved the ambiance of the great... more

We stayed in the Miner's Lodge (rooms 18 & 19), it is detached from the hotel in the back. It sits very close to the old Mine. The story goes that 38 miners perished in the mine and their spirits haunt the mine and the miners lodge. We experienced noises from the mine and within the lodge (sounds of miners... more

We stayed in Room 4, the Rose Room in the old section which was built back in 1859. There is a newer section added on to the old building with more modern rooms that was added on in the mid 1980's. Before I state the negatives I am quite accustomed to staying in old historic hotels that do not offer... more

Lots of charm...and lots of cigarette smoke! It's a cute place, the beds are comfortable enough, staff are friendly, it's quiet. BIG downside was that they allow smoking--everywhere. I had asked about that before booking and they said they would air out the room. I'm sure they did the best they could, but the room was still quite unpleasant. Also... more

The hotel is amazing.....authentic and loved by the staff and the manager, Melanie.......when Melanie warns you that booking one of the rooms in the front, the MOST authentic rooms, might be an "issue" on karaoke night in the bar below, heed her warning: it gets MORE than loud, it is something else.........but the hotel itself is wonderful...... The DINING ROOM:... more
