The gardens/ponds are lovely. The breakfast was indescribable. We had poached pears on apple walnut French toast. Our privacy was always respected. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Our hosts offered us numerous suggestions on what to see and where to go. more

Every once in a while you need to get out of the city and have a "country experience'. We did just that at The 1796 House in Stockbride, Ma. From the moment we stepped out of our car and into the exquisitely appointed house, we knew we had made a perfect choice. Jim, the innkeeper and owner, was gracious and... more

We stayed 2 days at the 1796 House on August 20-21. We booked for 2 nights because we were told there was a 2 night minimun stay. There was a lot of confusion with our reservation. The owner called us to apologize for an overbooking of rooms and asked if we would mind being moved to another room for the... more

Well, the reviews were certainly right. This is a perfect small very civilized bed and breakfast that reminded us of those charming bed and breakfasts in Europe. The place is very comfortable, unusually tastfully decorated, very hospitable, and near everything we wanted to see and do. The host could not do enough to help us. It is centrally air- conditioned... more

We returned to the 1796 House after giving it a rave review back in 2002 and after reading the one bad review it got from people from the UK (who apparently didn't even stay there) and all we can say is our stay was better than our first stay. What a charming, beautiful, warm and civilized place this bed and... more

After seeing the rave reviews on tripadvisor, I thought that the 1796 House would be great, but I was surprised by the lack of any effort by the owners. Having booked a room by email, I received no confirmation at first and it was only after chasing them several times that I finally heard back from them. Then, when we... more

Breakfast is served in the elegant dining room with fine china and silver, complete with candles and is truly fine dining. Your hosts will do everything possible to make your stay memorable, including suggestions... more

For a really romantic weekend any time of the year ( it is beautiful in all seasons) try this small , very hospitable and very charming 1700's bed and breakfast. It couldn't be more lovely or comfortable with fireplaces in the fall and winter and central air conditioning and gardens in the summer. It's about 2 miles to Tangelwood and... more
