This is a decent enough hostel. Property is in very good condition and there is free internet in the lobby area. There is also games like ping pong, a pool table and table football to play. Despite the decent amenities the atmosphere in the hostel is quite mooted. I'm more used to hostels where groups of people head out at... more

I brought a troop of 8 girls, with my coleader, from Minneapolis to Chicago for Memorial Day weekend. We rode the Megabus (about $35 roundtrip), bought CitiPass tickets (about $60) and 3-day visitor bus/El passes ($9), ate dim sum at Phoenix in Chinatown, and stayed at the Chicago IYH hostel for 3 nights (about $100) --- including meals, our entire... more

Stayed at the hostel for a week! Excellent place, close to the 'El' and other commodities. Rooms are clean and well kept. For the price, this is a bargain, plus the breakfast is included! Even though, there was a lot of groups staying there and the closeness of the 'El' track... the overall experience was great. Because of it open... more

I’ve just spent two nights at the HI-Chicago hostel in downtown Chicago. This is my second time visiting the hostel within the calendar year. Personally, I can’t see myself staying there again for a third time the next time I visit Chicago. However, this should not deter you from staying at this well established hostel. The hostel is located in... more

Excellent location, right on the subway loop, accessible by almost every subway line. The rooms were HUGE and the breakfast was good. High speed internet worked well. Walking distance to Art Gallery, Millennium Park, every subway line. I stayed here 9 nights in a 8 bed room. more

I thought it was generally nice. But I couldn't tell if they ever changed the bedding, even between different guests. Also, the shower water kept spilling out onto the floor and it was dark in that room, so it was kind of gross. And having the bathroom in the suite was actually not as desirable as having it in a... more

While a little pricey for a bunk bed ($35pp/nt), this hostel is very clean, well maintained, very friendly staff and has great security. The beds were very comfortable, although the pillows are fairly sub-par and the towels are quite thin. There is a bathroom with a seperate shower room and a seperate toilet room attached to each dorm room which... more

Visited Chicago for a conference in March 2006 and stayed at this hostel. Being that I had never stayed at a hostel before, I didn't know what to expect. This place was wonderful, though. It is as nice or nicer than many hotels I have stayed in, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the common areas, guest rooms, furnishings,... more

Lovely hostel. Very clean, bright, modern. The building is an old factory, so the ceilings are high and the rooms have a little character in their shape and detail. Desk the staff is knowledgable, helpful, and excited. Bathrooms next to spotless. White linens stain free and fresh smelling. Not the place you want to be if you're in the market... more
