We stayed at the Carter House for one night on a road trip of Northern California and Southern Oregon. I grew up in Eureka, so I had always heard positive things about the Carter House...especially the restaurant. So we decided to give it a try. I hadn't been by there in over 10 years, though, and things have apparently changed... more
Stayed at the Carter House for one night with my wife and two young children. Excellent service and great breakfast. There unfortunately was an error in my reservation, which showed us booked for 2009 instead of 2008. Carter House luckily had room available and upgraded us to a suite in the Carter House for no additional charge. more
We only stayed one night, but I would definitely return. The staff is very attentive, professional and very helpful. The food was delicious. Our room was simple, yet on the elegant side, and very clean. I loved the chocolate truffles at bedtime. We stayed in the house with the reception/check-in desk; don't know the name of the building, but we... more
This Hotel is a really nice spot in Eureka. The town is a bit disappointing but the Hotel was great. Firstly I got an unexpected upgrade. The room was great with an interesting Jacuzzi bath in the main bedroom! Don't be surprised that the building is a reproduction and also directly on the road so a bit of traffic noise,... more
C'mon. Over $200 for THIS? While we appreciate the fact that this is a restored "heritage" building, we were astounded by the noise (earplugs provided for your convenience?!). It was as if a heard of elephants were running amok above our room with only a 6/12 hour window of silence. The hotel staff were nice, but of the Bodysnatcher variety.... more
For the month of February, I have made a temporary home away from home at the Carter House Hotel. It has become a sanctuary. There is a lovely fireplace that transports you into a cozy living room space, which has become my favorite spot at the hotel. The service is very courteous and friendly. In addition, the rooms are very... more
Our honeymoon oncluded four days in northern California and four in san francisco, but we should have spent the entire week in Humbolt County! The Carter House in Eureka was our splurge, and the experience was amazing. The Carter House and Carter Hotel are the perfect home base for exploring the endless hiking trails of the Humbolt County Redwood Forest.... more
We were in Eureka for a few days while visiting redwood parks and had another hotel booked that turned out to be noisy and not up to the description. After one night we looked for hotels online and contacted the Carter House. They got us a room and let us move in early. We loved the Carter House. Nice clean... more
Our experience at the Carter house was great. Although we didn't stay in the hotel, we stayed in the Carter Cottage. The cottage was beautiful with a large outdoor deck. It appeared to be a cottage that had once been a restaurant because you could cook a meal for an army on the Viking stove. Overall, the cottage defined the... more
