This was not really what we expected at all!! It could have been our lack of research or the fact that it was the rainy season but we didn’t like this place much. We actually cancelled our reservation after checkin which ill get into below. We took the long drive up the mountain, very sketchy but somewhat adventurous. The road... more

Traveling to Costa Rica for the first time by wife and I chose this hotel for our first 3 days of our 10 day trip. We rented a 4x4 in Liberia and after making the turn off the main road encountered a long (approx 18 KM) but unique drive up to the Borinquen. Drove through several small towns which was... more

My family including 2 kids ages 12 and 9 stayed for 2 nights in the JR. Suite. The Suite itself was sumptuous but we were disappointed that there was a pull out couch and not 2 beds which was not specified when we booked the room. We paid 429.00/night huge in Costa Rica standards. The grounds are meticulous and we... more

There are things to love about this place and things to come home disgruntled about. Overall, the pros outnumber the cons! It has a beautiful rural setting - cows grazing on rolling hills, bird song at dawn, and amazing volcanic mud pools hissing and bubbling and spewing sulphur smelling gas into the air. Dont worry about the sulphur smell- there's... more

We stayed 3 nights at the Borinquen and overall we were impressed. The staff was very helpful and accomodating. We opted for the lowest priced Villa and were very happy with our choice. The grounds were very beautiful, the pool area looked great. Unfortunately, we did not have a chance to use the pool because we were out most of... more

Spouse and I and 36 others stayed here 2 nights as part of a tour. Incredible location, on side vent of active volcano - which supplies hot pools & sulfur mud and sauna in middle of dry coastal forest. However, it is a 1 hour ride mostly on an unpaved rutted/stony road from main Hwy ( #1). The ride is... more

The Hotel Borinquen is not near anything. Once you leave the main road around Liberia, you're on some really bad roads for quite some time. But when you arrive, the scenery is really magnificent. And though this place is far from civilization, it really has everything you could ask for right on its grounds. We were two couples and we... more

The resort is in a very beautiful setting, with the associated tribulations getting to the location. Costa Rica is an emerging third world country. I found the food to be a little uneven, breakfasts were good one day and awfull the next. The maintenance is perplexing. The majority of it is kept up, but then little things, like replacing dip... more

Went for a family vacation and had a wonderful time. There are so many things to do. Our 7 year old couldn´t get enough of the horses, ATV's and the beautiful pool. The Spa was an incredible experience with the sound of the river below. The staff was great, friendly and warm. Rooms are nice and spacious. Especially loved the... more

This resort was the worst part of our whole vacation. When you walk in they hand you these refreshing tropical drinks, and then your on your own. despite what the web site shows you only get a hammock if you are in a master suite no other bungalows come with one. Even though there were only 5 other couples at... more
