We looked at five other hotels in Wadi Musa before choosing the Petra Gate. The place is a little run down, the shower a trickle - but this was compensated by a very friendly welcome from the staff, and a great view down towards Petra from our room and from the restaurant window. There is free wireless, and you can... more

This year I was in Jordan 3 times. To Petra Gate Hotel I got by chance : because of snow in Petra I had to find a safe place to stay for 1 night and go to Petra again next morning. In Petra Gate Hotel I met a nice, very friendly staff and a lot of tourists from many countries... more

When I arrived in Petra, I was expecting to find it full of tourists and I expected the price to be triple of what it was in Amman. However, when i stumbled on the Petra Gate hotel, I found it to be really fantastic. When I go travelling, i look for somewhere that I can afford and somewhere where there... more

What do you want from travel? My girlfriend and I do a lot of travelling these days, and what we hope to get out of it is a feel for the culture and an insight into the people of the country. Sometimes we stay in more upmarket hotels, but feel somewhat cheated by this. The people who work at these... more

This is the first time that I have been let down by the reviews on this website. I am a budget traveller and have stayed in plenty of budget hotels over the past few years, but this has to be the worst. Granted, Nasser was very friendly and on checking in he did warn me it was a budget place... more

Hubby + I stayed here @ Petra Gate Hotel/Hostel for 3 days. in January. Courtesy car to entrance of Petra, but you'll need to get taxi JOD1 back as it is quite a walk uphill. Bed was on the soft side. Paid for breakfast. You can even pay for packed lunch. Dinner costs JOD5. good. Rooms were warm when we... more

I've had one of the best times of my life in this place. We can not say this is a luxury place: it's a very simple but clean place to stay. Rates are really on budget. We met people from all over the world (young people, families with small children, seniors, etc.) and the atmosphere was so warm and friendly.... more

I have just returned from a stay in this "hotel" (actally a hostel), based on recommendations on this site and others, and I am very disillusioned. I was not expecting luxary at all, but a basic standard of cleanliness would have been good. The floors look like they had never been cleaned and the sheets on the bed look used... more

The Petra Gate Hotel is a true gem! I have seen many hotels in many countries and this takes the cake. As soon as you walk in the door you are treated not like a customer but part of a family. The only place as special as the sites in Petra is the Petra Gate Hotel. Shukran Naser!!! more

With only a limited time in Jordan we based ourselves at the Petra Gate Hotel and took day trips to Petra, Wadi Rum and then up to Amman seeing many sights along the way. The hotel is simple but very well run - Nasser was an incredible host and really made us feel at home. His staff were all very... more
