After a 4 day break at this hotel i don't believe i'd never stay anywhere of the same callibre again. I was amazed on my arrival to be greeted by a young lady with an extremely long face who although was reasonably polite looked very unhappy in her work. I was told how to get to my room, once in... more

We arrived Thomas Paine Hotel on Saturday night and were surpised to find an empty car park, as we had been told the hotel was full, which first sounded the alarm bells. On approaching the main entrance there was an overpowering smell of smoke, animals and stale beer permeating from the hallway. We stood outside contemplating whether it was a... more

Terrible place. The good reviews here appear to be the work of someone, er, perhaps less than candid, shall we say. The threadbare dirty carpet was the first giveaway, the plastic sheeting, the empty restaurant, the dirty room... etc etc. Quite simply the joint worst experience I've ever had. We only checked Tripadvisor after our visit, and that was a... more

I was unfortunate enough to stay at this hotel which should really be described as a drug user home and dossers guesthouse The hotel was tatty and in a terrible part of town, the staff were rude, the food disgusting and the rooms were fit for demolition the owner was always out "in the pub" and was uncontactable and the... more

A classic 19th/20th century hotel. A bit lacking in attention for many years (worn bedspreads, carpets, peeling paintwork etc..) but otherwise OK and reasonably clean and quite spacious and no-frills. Perhaps not that good value for money, but still £15-20 cheaper than most other hotels and it does have historical connotations of course. Thetford alas, doesn't seem to have much... more

Made to pay for our weekend trip as soon as we got to the hotel late on a Friday night. Never had to do that in any hotel we've ever stayed at. It was supposed to be a surprise trip for my wifes birthday so she knew straight away how much it cost!!!! Dinner was reasonable. Bottled water was past... more

My other half and I stayed at the Thomas Paine for a 4 day break. We chose this hotel because a) we wanted to stay in Thetford and b) it was a pet friendly hotel and we took our dog. I would say that the staff were very helpful and friendly. We had no problems with our room, apart from... more

We stayed at the Thomas Paine for 3 days over Christmas. The staff was rude. The shower was ice cold. The room was filthy. The heating didn't work properly and the tolet wouldn't flush. It was overpriced and the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. more
