We booked a night in this hotel on our way out of Costa Rica after staying on the Pacific Coast. It was rated very well by Fodor´s 2008 guide to Costa Rica. When we arrived, we were extremely dissapointed. It was dark and creepy, and felt like it had not been remodeled since the 1970s. VERY CREEPY- stay away! And... more

I have stayed at the Clarion Amon Plaza several times over the last few years. Although the hotel is not new, the rooms were always clean and comfortable. I recently returned to the Amon Plaza to find the hotel in a sad state. The rooms that my group were assigned were very worn and dated. The beds were sagging, the... more

This hotel is sorely in need of a remodel and upgrade of bed linens, carpets, drapes, etc. The shower was very dark and had a loose fan cover hanging over the top of it, with mildew in the corners. Ewwwwwwwwww. Hard bed. Noisy location - we heard gunshots at night. I wouldn't stay here again if they paid me. more

Though ageing a bit, this hotel has a great location, excellent service staff, and value rates. The rooms are clean and for anyone doing business in San Jose, it`s a good choice. They also have an unlimited international calling plan for $20 a day. more

Stayed three nights. Convienent and nice. New owners (American hotel group) so more English friendly than before. Good casino and lots of restaurants nearby. Hotel is in the process of taking over and changing restaurant which is good because the food was okay but expensive and all Italian. TV's could use an upgrade but I didn't go to watch TV.... more

If there is anything less than 1 star rating, I would've chosen that instead. The room is filthy, the bathtub was clogged so I ended up with a tub full of dirty water after I took a shower. Coffee machine did not work, room lighting was not any brighter than a candle. I could hardly see the content of my... more

This hotel was probably once one of the nicest in San Jose, but it is now in decline. The rooms were nice and clean enough, and the staff was generally helpful. This hotel promotes its first class spa, excercise facilities, and sauna all over its website. We found the jacuzzi and sauna to be broken, however, and the exercise area... more

Lobby was deceivingly classy - rooms were worse than a dingy American motel. Beds were uncomfortable, pillows were rocks, the TV didn't work, and the lighting was insufficient. The telephones malfunctioned so there was an annoying ring every half hour or so - the best the hotel staff could do was unplug the whole phone system. The food in the... more

I made reservations for 5 rooms at the Clarion Amon hotel in downtown San Jose Costa Rica for one night. We travel a lot and one member of our group is a double amputee. In most foreign countries wheelchair accessibility is non existent but we try to stay somewhere with a lift or room on first floor. I was given... more

I stayed at the Amon Plaza hotel back in Feb. of this year. I have visited Costa Rica many times in the past and have always stayed at the Presidente hotel. Unfortunately, there was a conference of some sorts in town the week of my trip and the Presidente was all booked up. After doing some searches on the net... more
