We booked through japaneseguesthouses.com. Although located right in the middle of Kyoto, a sense of quiet and peace pervades this lovely guesthouse. The staff is extremely helpful, although their English was spotty. They helped us find a private tourguide. They helped us with anything we needed while staying there. We have just returned from our 4 day stay in Kyoto Matusi Rokyan .the first thing about the hotel are the extremly warm and hospitable staff, they speak decent english so it was no issues at all checking in .
