We stayed for a weekend at the Hangzhou Shangri-la on a "Villa" package. The package itself included a few extras like massage, bike rental, etc. But for the price, we were expecting a MUCH nicer room. This was 3 stars at best, and nothing fantastic. When visiting Hangzhou stay in the Shangrila Hotel on West Lake & request a balcony room in the East Wing for views over the lake and of the city. If you want a sedate environment, fantastic views, a garden and to be distant from the city this is a great place to stay. The hotel has a good range of facilities, outdoor eating areas and very close to the lake for easy access to walks. We stayed at this hotel as part of an extended tour of China. It is beautifully situated opposite the West Lake but also experiences traffic noise if, as happened to us, your balcony door on your lake view does not fit properly. After an attempt to repair it, we were moved to a room on the side of the building.... more

We very much enjoyed our stay at Shangri-La Hangzhou. The property is beautiful, has pretty views on the lake and is a 5mn drive from the city center so it gives an immediate sense of serenity. The Shangri-la in Hangzhou is great where location is concerned. Most tourists go to Hangzhou to visit the West Lake (Xi Hu). Its historical and natural beauty attracts both local and foreign visitors. As the hotel is separated from the lake by only a road, visitors can walk to the various attractions easily.
