“Basic rooms but good communal areas”

We found this place easy enough although it was down back street buzzing with local activity. The communal areas of the hostel had a friendly relaxed atmosphere and we met a number of other travelers here. The staff were very helpful and efficient. Having stayed in 2 excellent youth hostels in Beijing and Xi'an before we reached Guilin, we had to laugh or cry when we rocked up here. This hostel is located down some back streets, and up a flight of stairs that wouldn't look out of place on some of England's less pleasant estates. First impressions are not good.
