I stayed at Beit Wakil for 2 nights and all was going well except that the suspicious looking buffet breakfast ended up giving me the worst case of food poisoning I'd ever experienced. The last meal I had before going back to Damascus was some tomato and cucumber from their kitchen and a few hours later I started getting stomach... more

As many other reviewers have stated the hotel is in an excellent location in the Armenian quarter of Aleppo. This alone adds a lot of the charm. The building itself is fascinating and evocative with domes, courtyards, mosaics and stucco work. Again it is worth staying for this. Our room was in the bridge crossing the Sissi alley (number 30... more

We stayed at this hotel three years ago and found it charming. This time it was very empty and felt like a ghost ship - the breakfast they laid out was sparse. Also this time we found the room somewhat dark and poky, and the aircon didn't work properly. As others have probably said it is a converted khan which... more

I agree that the Beit Wakil has character. The central courtyard is charming. But you don't sleep in the courtyard. Other group members' rooms were cramped but ours was immense - about 18 feet high! It required an industrial sized aircon unit to cope with the universe of air to be conditioned. And it had one (actually it had two-... more

I stayed here with a tour group in June and was very disappointed by the standard of room furnishings and fixtures considering the beauty of the courtyard and fountain area. It is obvious that a lot of thought went into this area but stopped there. The reception staff try hard but the problem is the management. You get the feeling... more

Nice hotel, rooms could be a little cramped if a lot of luggage. But very nice ambience around a small courtyard. Pillows a bit hard!! more

Stayed for 3 nights. Room 8 is quite cramped as I suspect most of the non-suites are (see photograph), and cheaply fitted out especialy the bathroom. The courtyard and reception area are quite attractive and the food in the restaurant is OK though we were hustled through one night when there was a large scale Christening party. Breakfast included nasty... more

The Beit Wakil is an absolutely beautiful property. Unfortunately, for us this was overshadowed by the consistently poor service, and the fact our room had a drainage problem (which might be excusable in a cheaper property, but not at this price). The staff were pleasant enough, but just seemed untrained, organisation was chaotic and they really didn't seem interested in... more

Beit Wakil is one of several boutique hotels in Aleppo. The ebullient owner is quite hands-on and can often be seen dining at the hotel. The atmosphere is charming and the dining-room is set in a large courtyard (covered by a high roof) that gives the impression of dining al fresco. Rooms vary in size and decor, as one might... more

A beautiful small hotel with a good restaurant, friendly staff and good buffet breakfasts. Our two room suite (room 27) was $111 a night, we just could not believe it! We had a view down into the courtyard below from both the bedroom and the lounge and a small barred window allowed us to peer down on the small alley... more
