Due to a transport strike we were unable to take the train to Machu Picchu so used a helicopter which got us to the hotel around 09.00. We were taken to the buffet bar to fill in the reservation forms etc, which seemed to take forever. It was our wedding anniversary that day and we were told that we were... more

I' afraid our stay here was a total disaster ! 1 - Arrived off the Inca Trail at 8am, just to leave off our back packs : We were soaked and had been up at 3am for our final hike . The doorman took one look at us, and refused to let us in. He made us stand on the... more

We would like to apologize for the inconvenience on September 5th as regards the lack of water. That dawn there had been a mudslide bringing down stones and earth in Huayraktambo near Wiñayhuayna and unfortunately on its way down caused the breakage of approximately 5 meters of linear pipes of our spring water source which supplies the hotel thoroughly; the...

Like the other Orient express Properties we stayed at in Peru, this is hotel is a class act, but its location right next to the Machu Picchu entrance is both its biggest blessing and biggest curse. As mentioned in pretty much every other review, the old rooms are unbelievably small, sort of simple, and, for several rooms, viewless. I’m repeating... more

Arriving to the Sanctuary Lodge after 4 days of hiking the Inca Trail is like finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. We arrived at 7am on a Sunday after hiking the last leg of the Inca Trail from Winaywayna. It was heaven to walk out of the gate of the park and within a few... more

When I started to organize my trip to Peru I had not heard of the Sanctuary Lodge. It was one of the highlights of our trip. The amazing proximity to Macchu Picchu meant we didn't have to rush for the last bus and could get some extra winks but still be guaranteed to see the sunrise. The andean night sky... more

First, the bad news: this hotel is expensive, and it is not of quite the same standard as, say, the Monasterio Cusco or the Miraflores Park in Lima. The good news: everything else is great! We arrived at around 1pm off the HB and our rooms were ready. After an afternoon on the site, it is comforting to be able... more

During daytime you"d think you are in a country fair, crowded, noisy but after the buses leave all is quiet ,dinner is great,.Though it belongs to Orient Express food (breakfast, lunch tea and dinner )is much better than on the Hiram Bingham train.I loved the view of the montains, the small room is no problem as you spend most time in the garden and... more

We spent one night in late June at the Sanctuary Lodge, and it was worth every penny. Like most folks, we thought twice about spending $700+ for a room, but we have no regrets. Location, service and unlimited food/beverage made this once in a lifetime indulgence worthwhile. While staying up at Machu Picchu doesn't allow you to get into the... more

This hotel is not to be missed when visiting Machu Picchu. It's location is, to say the least, an advantage. Besides being able to wander around the ruins well after the crowds have all left for the last train to Cuzco, and being at the ruins the minute they open (6am) to watch the sun hit the Inca sundial, the... more

We traveled here after the Hiram Bingham train journey which was fabulous. We had a private guide which was much better as there was only the two of us so we would recommend people take that option. The staff and hotel were fantastic and very friendly. Just what would be expected of a hotel in this chain. It was my... more
