We stayed at the San Jorge Eco Lodge this summer, and I do not recommend it. The owner, Jorge, is by turns helpful and knowledgeable, then he can turn coercive and argumentative. I think he has done some things well, and is managing quite a lot of land to conserve for birding. The food at the lodge was really quite... more

San Jorge Eco-Lodge [--] just outside of Quito was part of our 12 day visit to Ecuador. We are a family of four (teenage daughter of 13 and a 19 year old son). We just spent one night here while going from Otavalo to Mindo. This place is a nature reserve and an old Presidential Hacienda from the turn of... more

We have just returned from a wonderful 2 1/2 week vacation in Ecuador including a week of birding and cultural activities in Quito and a week in the Galapagos. The Hosteria San Jorge in Quito was a find -- not only was all the staff helpful and accomodating, but our room was spacious and clean, and the Ecuadorian-style food was... more

Beautiful hosteria full of antiques and samples of Ecuadorian culture. The staff catered to our every need, the food was great, excellent views, and if you are a birder this is the only place to stay in Quito! Two of our friends were mugged in Quito (one in old town one in new area) and I never felt safe if... more

I loved my stay at this birding paradise. The accomodations were beautiful and the staff was very attentive. Food was plentiful and very well prepared. The owner provided a great deal of personal attention in order to ensure that everything met my individual travel needs. I would recomment this hotel without hesitation. more

We stayed at San Jorge for three nights with 3 other couples. The owners are very nice, but the hotel needs considerable updating....the bedding is worn, the food was nondescript and the accomodations were musty. We were inclined to think that the manager of the property was spread too thin... If you have difficulty with walking...this place is not for... more

My family (6 of us) just spent 5 days at San Jorge and it was a terrible disappointment. San Jorge is nothing more than a hotel at the end of a dirt road on the hills just outside of Quito. There was nothing "eco" about the experience. Tours to the rain forest required driving 2 hours; horseback riding required having... more

We where met by a volunteer student from the East Coast. She was just learning spanish ... and to be our interpreter on the tours. She, the owner Gorge and one other waiter were the only other people in the whole lodge. The room was supposed to be in an old monestery ....which turned out to be more of a... more

We had an absolutely incredible time at San Jorge Eco-Lodge & Botanical Reserve, just a short distance away from Quito Airport. We visited both reserves, the San Jorge Eco-Lodge & Botanical Reserve and their new reserve located in Milipe including their new eco-lodge in Milpe! The scenery was spectacular, and the service was excellent. We had a wonderful experience. The... more

We have just returned from our second stay at San Jorge Eco-Lodge, a beautiful 19th century hacienda turned into an eco-lodge overlooking Quito. The owners and the staff could not be more helpful or generous with their time and expertise. The common rooms are beautiful, spacious, and full of both antiques and wonderful art - including many paintings by the... more
