The hotel has been refurbished and it was gorgeous. The bedrooms were half rondavels. Really comfortable and well furnished. The food was super. Even early morning breakfast at 6 am was good. The entertainment was so good, you really can avoid going into the Masaii village. Save yourself some money.. It was part of a package. The best hotel we... more

We have just returned from a Virgin "Taste of Kenya" tour. The safaris were fantastic and run by Rhino Tours of Nairobi. Virgin Atlantic cancelled the flight out at the last minute and also cancelled the flight back 2 days before we were due to return. Due to the recent troubles, we were some of the first visitors to tour... more

We went to Kenya and Zanzibar for our honeymoon with Virgin Holidays. We did a 6 day 'Taste of Kenya' safari and then transferred to Zanzibar for a week on the beach. Virgin Holidays were pretty terrible in terms of pre-trip customer service. However the holiday itself was fabulous. Throughout the safari we stayed at Sopa Lodges. First we went... more

Stayed at the Sopa for 2 nights in July -07. Arrived for lunch one day, left after breakfast the third day. The lodge is OK, with a local touch to the architecture, great views over the valley and plains and a nice pool area. I found the lodge a bit too big, with a really huge dining area and some... more

We stayed in multiple locations during our trip to Kenya, some more expensive than the Sopa Lodge. In our opinion, the place with the most courteous staff and best service was the Mara Sopa. The view is lovely because the lodge is located in hills just next to the entrance to the Maasai Mara Reserve. The other reviews talk about... more

Mara Sopa Lodge is a fairly basic hotel which is not too much of a surprise given the location. We had a 2 night stay in mide November which is a good time to visit the game pars as there are quite a number of baby animals and the massive herds of wildebeest etc have recently left. When checking in,... more

This is the only hotel that I stayed in while visiting the Mara and I couldn't imagine a better place. The setting is beautiful. The rooms were very comfortable. The location is 10 minutes from the closest entrance into the reserve. The staff provided excellent service. I found out after I checked in that they turn off their electric generator... more

Yes the rooms are a bit tired but overall it's a very good lodge. I did't hear any noise in my bedroom, wich was quite spacious, with big bathroom and really hot water. Room was very clean, did't see any insect at all. Beds have mosquito netts and rooms ar sprayed while you are having dinner. Masai dance in the... more

This was the first lodge we stayed in on Safari and after reading some of the other reviews we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were clean, large with comfortable beds and a good shower room. Maybe the room decor was a bit tired but come on guys you are on Safari and miles from anywhere, what do you honestly expect.... more

We arrived here to an overbooking situation which was made worse as the manager even refused to let us have lunch despite having travelled all the way there and its was his overbooking problem not ours. Then finally we got a substandard smelly room with bad cold food from the left over lunch buffet. The evening was a nightmare as... more
