We stayed at the Empress Hotel in Chiang Mai for 3 nights after flying down from Chiang Rai. First impressions of the hotel were good – a large international hotel with a grand lobby with heavy wooden furniture. Smooth check-in and a good-sized superior room with views over the city. Breakfast was included in the price of the room and... more

Just returned from Thailand with my family of four....loved the location of the Empress Hotel. We were within walkng distance to the Best Massage which I would highly recommend for exactly that! Went on the half day ATV excursion and the ATV people were also wonderful. They picked us up and dropped us back off at the hotel at no... more

This was the 2nd of 3 hotels we used during our trip to Thailand. The room was superb, spacious and nicely furnished. The bathroom was clean and well fitted out. Only had breakfast in the hotel which was great. Plenty of choice for all tastes and appetites. Staff very friendly and always there with a smile. Located in a excellent... more

Booked the Hotel through Wotif and checked the reviews on Trip Advisor and was reasonably reassured. The first impression of the lobby was good and the reception staff were smart, courteous and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, although they don't do themselves any favours with the decor. Although not at all shabby, in our room they use dark... more

I stayed at the Empress hotel for 3 nights and I was very pleased. The hotel is about a 15 minute drive to the airport and around 10 minute walk to the start of the famous night market. I have to say that the check-in was one of the politest I have ever received, very friendly and helpful and they... more

We loved this hotel. We booked through Kuoni and all their rooms are on a non smoking floor (unless you specifically ask for smoking). The staff were lovely, very polite, friendly and helpfull. The restuarant was mostly buffet style and the choice was extensive. The snacks/sandwiches served by the pool were delicious and reasonably priced. Would recomend the river cruise... more

We (three seniors in their 60's) stayed at the Empress five nights, March 8-12/2008. Two rooms on the 10th floor. Arrived by train in mid evening. Our first impression was very good. Huge, beautiful lobby with lots of roses. Service at the reception was efficient and pleasant. Nice rooms, plenty of hot water, good A/C ( very hot week in Chiang... more

I am amused at the previous review since it could have been written by me for the most part. If you were there between March 2-8, we were part of the seminar groups housed in Empress Hotel. There were definitely lots of tour groups during our stay. We had just checked out of the Holiday Inn CM & joined our... more

This is an old hotel. I stayed in a standard room, booked from the airport counter. The room is basic and OK, but I also looked into a deluxe room, which for 500 baht more, looks a world of difference -- newly renovated with chic furnishings. The location is not too bad, but it is not walking distance from the... more

I loved the Empress as soon as I walked in. It has the slightly faded grandeur of the big old-time hotels, and some kitschy (as well as lovely) Thai art and woodwork. The cost was high by most Chiang Mai standards, but worth every baht, if you ask me. From the welcome drink (fruit punch! so cute!) to the tuktuk... more
