Miniscule soap provided (we purchased our own). Only hot items in buffet were toast and coffee. Heater/AC had a mind of its own. Buzz in/out procedure inconvenient. Cash only o.k., but if pay in Euros, only paper currency (no coins) accepted. Older desk person very unfriendly almost to the point of rudeness (probably due to language difficulties--not his fault). Good... more

We stayed here in August for for 4 nights. The hotel was comfortable and cosy, specially our room trat seems a dinig-room, with wood-ancient furniture, but lovely and cosy. Breakfast was quite good, except the omelettes... they don´t know how to cook this! The recepcionist, Mark, was efficient and hepful. Best of all is the location, near Batttany Tér tube... more

We stayed here for three nights this July and were quite satisfied with the hotel. The oddest thing though - the pictures on the website somehow make the rooms appear smaller than they really are. We had a room on the first floor (it's pictured on their website) but when turned up we were told that it wasn't really a... more

We stayed three wonderful nights at Hotel Astra in April 2008. The hotel is situated in one of the most perfect locations in Budapest. It is in the Buda Castle District right below the Fishermen's Bastion, Matya's Church, and the Palace. It is a very charming, quaint hotel dating back to the 1700's. It has all the modern conveniences, but... more

This is a really tough review to write...mainly because had i paid a different price i think my idea of this hotel would be a lot better. I ummed and ahhed alot about which side of the river to stay on and which hotel to pick and in the end went for the Astra because it was smaller and the... more

This is the type of hotel others should aspire to be. All hotels no matter where you go begin to look and feel the same, anonymous bland and cold. This hotel is different. It seems like you are staying in a friends house. The rooms are big and spacious with "real" furniture that you would possibly put in your own... more

The current reviews on Tripadvisor for this hotel are somewhat mixed, but I have to say that it is one of the loveliest hotels that I have ever stayed in, and I have stayed in very many. It's small, compact and charming. I found all of the staff very friendly and willing to help. My room was wonderful - spacious,... more

My boyfriend and myself stayed in the hotel Astra in Budapest in November 2006 for two nigths. We arrived by car from Prague. Before even filling up the check-in form we received the penalty for parking. Later on we found out that there was a parking machine for parking in this street from 8:00 a.m. until 18:00 p.m. But the... more

We arrived by train on an overnighter from Switzerland and were looking for a little peace and quiet in Budapest. The Astra was all we wanted and more. The rooms are spacious, the breakfasts were complete and tasty and the location was away from the noise of the Pest side of the city. It was conveniently located within 5 blocks... more

I am not sure how much of this problem comes from the language barrier, but it is my impression that they aren't very concerned with their customers' well-being. Just the facts: We paid 100 euros for a room in this hotel, which Lonely Planet rated among the top 5. When we arrived, the concierge did not offer to help us... more
