The Senatshotel in Cologne is an independent **** hotel with a heavy 50s and 70s feeling to it; it tends, in many respects, to ***. Booked on the day through local Tourist Info office. Excellent location. You can see the Cathedral from the street in front of the hotel. Room comfortable and large, bathroom small but has good basics and v good shower. No air con or climate control and can get street noise. Stayed for 2 nights and was 105 euros for double room... more

Glad I booked this hotel. Wanted a brand name but they were 3-4 times more expensive. Senats is in a great location - close to all of the Christmas Markets and train station, pedestrian mall, Rhine, Cathedral. Breakfast was included and was satisfying - great fresh rolls! Room (single) was fine - no complaints except no clock. Oh well. more

Good location, 5 minute walk to Railway station. Generally the lobby and restaurant (breakfast) are a bit dated. Room was clean and of good size. Bathroom was brand new. Mattress was way too soft though (sunk in 10 cm of the 15cm , felt like foam. More like a 3star hotel: No body lotion or other amenities just a shower... more

We travelled to Cologne Germany for the Christmas Markets last year and it was one of best holidays ever! The senats hotel was close to all the christmas markets and the main shopping centre. 2 mins to the Dom. This is great when you have been shopping and can just pop back to drop things off!!
