The history alone would make a stay in this hotel worthwhile. But the architecture and beauty of the building was just an added bonus. I'm a bit of a WW2 buff, so it was eerie to stand on my balcony and look at Hitler's driveway and see the same breathtaking views that I've seen in so many historical photos. The... more

It was ment to be, to stay at this hotel, we had been driving all day and needed a place to stay, we found some hotel phone numer and called it, and the nicest voice answerd the phone, so full of happyness, it was frau Scharfenberg, so we had a place to stay, and when we found the hotel, we... more

Just come back from a two night stay at the hotel. My partner and I have an interest in World War 2 history and felt this would be an ideal place to stay in Bavaria. As has been previously stated in other reviews the zum Turken has an atmosphere all its own - be it your own imagination taking over... more

My mother and I stayed here for two nights. I booked it on the recommendations of other reviews that I read and it did live up to my expectation. I am no history buff but I could be soaked up in the atomshpere of the place. The Lady who owns it is lovely. We had a room with a balcony... more

Stayed in Hotel Zum Turken in May after a couple of nights in Salzburg. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and agree it is a 'must see' for anyone interested in World War II History. Stayed in Room 5, a first floor corner room with balcony, overlooking the site of 'The Berghof ' and of course the most beautiful views... more

I visited the Obersalzberg with my family this past August, and we stayed at the Hotel Turken. I arranged this on purpose because I am a student of WWII history, and this holtel was once the headquarters for some of the SS guards whose job it was to protect Hitler when he was at his retreat, the Berghof. This Berghof--which... more

Stayed here for 2 nights in August 2006. Hotel itself is very dated, but that is its charm. Worth the extra for a room with shower etc. Very good value. Spotlessly clean and beds comfortable. A must for those with an interest in WWII. The bunker system under the hotel is fascinating and much more extensive than anticipated. Frau Scharfenberg... more

Review: Zum Turken Hotel Reviewer: Frequent european traveler who livied in Italy for six years In planning a trip from Venice to Bavaria (and back) in October 2006 I came across an excellent review of a hotel in Obersalzberg called "Zum Turken." As serendipity would have it , I was reading the 5th edition of Frommer's "Munich and the Bavarian... more

My husband and I have stayed at the Zum Turken many times. He was there in the 70's when he was in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. Since then we have gone back many times. He says it has changed very little since then. I first went 17 years ago, and it has not changed at all since I... more

This is a great place for a WWII history buff to stay for a night or two while visiting the sites in the Berchtesgaden / Obersalzburg area. The hotel is very clean and owner and staff are also very nice. It's not the most comfortable hotel physically, and frankly it's a bit spooky to remember the things that happened there,... more
