As other reviewers have said, the Hotel du Palais is well located for local attractions and public transport. The reception staff were pleasant enough, but my ground floor room was surprisingly small, and although it was clean and comfortable enough I didn't feel tempted to spend too much time there. As others have said, noise from other rooms is an... more

We were there on the 9th October 2007.This hotel was in a fantastic position and was only minutes from the Old Port. However the walls seem to be very thin and we could hear the shower in the room next door being used...just as loudly as if we were in the room. Thankfully there was no other noise from our... more

This was a perfectly adequate hotel for a one night stay in Marseille. The location is excellent, literally a 2-3 minute walk from the station, very easy to find, and a short stroll down to the water. Having been warned from various reviews that hotel rooms in France are all tiny, we were pleasantly surprised by this one, as it... more

The hotel is located a few blocks from the metro stop and a 10 minute walk to the Vieux Port. Finding the exact building took some time as it is not clearly marked. The staff cannot be any more helpful. We were coming from Montepellier and this was our third city before heading off to Italy and so we were... more

What can I say...we were looking for something cheap but not terrible, close to the Port but not on the Port, and clean. The location is excellent - one minute from the Metro and a five minute walk from the Port. The staff was friendly, the rooms were smallish but adequate, and apart from the awkwardness of showering with a... more

The location of this hotel if fabulous. 1 minute walk opposite to the metro station and just 3 min walk to the main harbour and where everything is happening! There are a few beaches, 2 man-made ones a metro ride away and a small natural beach within walking distance (15min). We went clubbing which is walking distance. Next to the... more

From the pictures I thought this would be a little bit luxurious, and I incorrectly thought it was right on the waterfront. My first impression was 'seedy' but actually once we'd settled in and when I compare it to other hotels we stayed in along the coast during this holiday it was nice. It's old and in true French hotel... more

This hotel is fine, there is nothing wrong with it. But after reading the reviews on this site I was expecting something more. We stayed on the fourth floor, the room was clean, comfortable and quiet. It was also quite non-descript. The location is great, very close to the metro and the vieux-port. I would stay at the hotel again... more

My visit to Marseille started at Gare St. Charles. After having been told by a train station cabbie that taxis to the hotel would cost me EUR25, I opted to walk to the street and waited for close to 20min just to hire a taxi. I was lucky to have a taxi take me to this hotel for EUR11.50 considering... more

This is a great hotel in a not-so-great city. My partner and I went to Marseille for two nights in March and found the city stinky and dirty and uneventful... but the hotel was our saving grace. The staff are genuinely friendly and helpful... VERY refreshing! And our room was very clean, comfy and quiet. Breakfast is 8 euro and... more
