Our recent stay at Rick's was highly anticipated, but sorely disappointing. After booking this "boutique hotel" based on TripAdvisor and Mr. and Mrs. Smith reviews, we thought this would be a luxurious departure from the big chain hotels normally found in cities. Rick's location is unsurpassed as it sits on Frederick Street (at the corner of Frederick and Thistle) between... more

As a regualr user of Ricks over the last three years, I have noticed the standards both in service and the quality of the rooms going down over the last year. My most recent visit was for two nights during the festival Aug08. I am accepting of the noise mentioned in so many of the other threads but can live... more

Ok, so we didn't listen to the advice given to us from TripAdvisor! Sorry! We went ahead anyway, ignoring the advice about the loud rubbish trucks and the dishes from the back door etc etc. We should've listened! We were woken up almost every 10/20 minutes from approx. 07:00am, with people emptying bins, bucket lorries, deliveries for the pub directly... more

Decided on Rick's Place because the reviews/pictures I had seen seemed rather good. Booked through Mr and Mrs Smith. On arrival, the bar looked pleasant enough. The staff member who showed us to our room seemed bored and unfriendly, no offer to help with luggage. The room (no.5) was nicely decorated but beginning to look scruffy - the door was... more

First the positives - really central location, hotel room was what was expecting from a boutique hotel - stylish with lots of nice touches from the complimentary water and muffins to the white company toiletries, and great bar - definitely recommend the cocktails. Now the negatives - first was the speed of service - everything from check-in to check-out was... more

Nice rooms that are well furnished but as other reviews have mentioned the noise in the early hours from the bottle and refuge collections can disturb a good nights sleep. Our first night we were tired from a long journey so decided to eat dinner in the restaurant which was nice until it took nearly an hour from asking for... more

Rick's has a great location, very central. The staff seem friendly and the room was well furnished. Be aware though: all the rooms back on to an alley which is loud at night and the sound of clanging bottles will echo through the room. The room is nicely furnished though. Be careful with payemnt though: I gave the hotel a swipe... more

Stayed for 1 night at Rick's in March. Beautiful rooms, quite small but with great beds/bedding and nice little touches like candles, cd player etc. Breakfast was brilliant, everything from traditional Scottish to fresh smoothies and huge waffles. Only downside was the fact that we couldn't get a drink from the bar at 1a.m as they were closing and had... more

We were bumped to Ricks for one night as our booking had been lost for our original hotel, Tigerlily. We ended up having to stay one night at Ricks and the next at Tigerlily. We were assured by the Tigerlily staff that Ricks is "the next best thing" to their hotel, but lets be honest, it's the same group and... more

We couldn't believe our luck to get a room in a hotel in central Edinburgh on the weekend Scotland played England at Murrayfield in the Calcutta Cup...and won!! This little gem of a hotel has 17 Boutique-style rooms above Ricks bar/restaurant. Extremely central, within walking distance of the Bus and Train Stations, Princes Street, and a host of other top... more
