A grand house with contemporary style, a leafy setting near the heart of the city. Jesmond Dene House is neither a townhouse nor a country house hotel. It's simply 40 well-designed bedrooms and suites in a richly historic building offering understated luxury and rather good food. Overlooking the wooded valley of Jesmond Dene, the privately owned hotel guarantees peace, escapism and a refreshing change. Newcastle's city centre, however, is only a five-minute drive. The hotel recently received a AA Star Rating of 4 Stars 88%. more » « less

I recently held a business meeting at Jesmond Dene House in Newcastle and I must comment on the effortless and superb service I received. From the moment I arrived attention to detail was evident. I was escorted quickly and efficiently to my meeting room and quickly discovered what first class service really means. The timetable was followed meticulously, the food... more

Rooms rents are at the expensive end of things, but the building, furnishings and fittings are high-quality throughout. Before arriving I had been prepared to rue the decision to book, but in the end I had no qualms in handing over £161 pounds for my one night's single room B&B. I don't think I've stayed in a more tastefully furnished,... more

Attended my first (and definately not the last!) jazz evening -absolutely fantastic! Jamie Squires (the new and improved jamie cullum) was superb and all complimented by excellent food and very impressive staff (its great to see people who actually love where they work!) You will not find a more picturesque & welcoming boutique hotel in the northeast! No doubt will... more

I have to travel to Newcastle on business fairly frequently and discovering Jesmond Dene House has transformed this from a chore into a positive pleasure to be looked forward to. The whole place is very clean and smart with every comfort. The staff are friendly and the service is excellent. To top it off they have an extremely good kitchen;... more

This is the third time I have stayed at Jesmond Dene and cant wait for my next visit! The Hotel offers the perfect city retreat overlooking the lovely Dene and yet 5 minutes away from the City centre. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels and this epitomises boutique chic. The romms are all unique and wonderfully decorated, the beds... more

A great welcome from Dean the concierge made our first impression of the hotel one that will remain in the memory for a while. He's a real star and strikes exactly the right balance between welcoming informality and encyclopedic knowledge of the area and the hotel itself. The Front of House team were very welcoming but the pre-charging of cards... more

We are fans of the 21 restaurants so had high expectations of the hotel. We booked a room category above the basic so as to be sure it would be good. We were allocated an attic room that was stuffy and claustrophobic. There was no window only skylights. The bed was hard. Dinner was good but not exceptional. Breakfast portions... more

This review is about Afternoon tea - as we did not stay. In summary - I would say very disappointing food but very attentive staff. The Hotel itself, is lovely and is in a beautiful setting. The staff are lovely - very attentive and friendly. Our tea was served before the food and we were left waiting quite some time... more

A most enjoyable experience in every respect from our arrival/concierge/all members of staff/our room (no. 23) and particularly the food. We opted for the tasting menu and it ranked with the best that we have experienced in recent years i.e. Stein's, Oliver's, Ramsden's, Nutterley's and several other top restaurants in UK and Europe. We felt that they had certainly achieved... more
