Having read some of the appalling reviews of the Angel on here (that look like they're been written by the same people in the same group), I have to disagree that it's all THAT bad, because it's recently undergone a well-needed "facelift" and hotels right in Guildford city centre are very hard to find. There are only about two others,... more

I stayed here as part of a wedding party. The staff were rude, unhelpful and the rooms were dirty, needing updaing and no where near the luxury hotel experience I expected. Save some money and stay somewhere else. more

We have a large collection of thank you letters and cards from wedding parties in the past year about our excellent service, pleasant staff and beautiful historic building. These are available upon request, should there be any doubts about our ability to conduct weddings and level of service. The hotel is currently undergoing refurbishment and has drastically improved. We are...

My sisters big day arrived, and we were all due to get ready for the wedding at this hotel, and then stay there that night - a HUGE MISTAKE!!! Because of the hotels lack of competence, my poor sister arrived 30 minutes late to her own wedding, I know the bride is meant to be a little fashionably late -... more

This hotel is very quaint, but totally impractical with very unhelpful staff and terrible food. Located on the High Street in Guildford there is no parking available nor any concessions for any of the local car parks. When enquiring I was told to look for myself, no assistance was offered. The staff did not bother to acknowledge me when I... more

Stayed here for a wedding, the hotel was sold as one of the 'Luxury hotels of the world' collection. We were expecting Relais Chateaux standards. OH HOW WRONG we were!!! there was NO Parking!!! the hotel do not run a car valet or parking service. The rooms need re-decorating and are shabby, shabby, shabby! Staff are unhelpful and multi-task, ie.... more

Arranged to get ready for my wedding in this hotel and 90% of the rooms where booked out to wedding guests. The staff were incredibly rude and unhelpful. This hotel is on the High street with no parking, and a barrier to the entrance of the street with limited access to the hotel itself. Despite assurances that the staff would... more

We use this hotel as a base to visit our son and his partner who have an apartment just up the High Street. It was the second time for us and after 18 months we noticed little had changed, except perhaps deteriorated a bit further. The only thing going for the Angel is the location and access to everything that... more

This hotel is simply fabulous and deserves more credit than it is given on this site. Yes it is dated and the rooms are overpriced but the staff are second to none and if you hire it privately you will not be let down. We just held our wedding there and it could not have gone any better. From start... more

We have just returnrd from a one night stay at this hotel, and were very disappointed. As busy people, who don't get away much, i booked this hotel, as a 'treat' for us, and at £200 for a luxuxry suite, you'd expect something pretty special. What we actually got, was a hotel in dire need of a complete overhaul. Our... more

A beautiful (and rabbit warren-like) coaching inn with parts dating from the 13th century, the Angel is bang dead centre for Guildford's shopping district and an easy (less than 5 min) walk to the city's best restaurants. The decor is authentic-ish and the parts which don't fit in are at least pleasantly functional, such as the modern lift. Service is... more
